Activity 1:

Identify any one Proscriptive Norm and one Prescriptive Norm that is in practice in our society and also justify why the mentioned norm is Proscriptive or Prescriptive.

Answer:

Proscriptive norm that is practice in our society:

Is “Quarrelling aloud or raising voices indoor and outdoor “....

Justification: Why the above mentioned norm is Proscriptive? Because it is most observable proscriptive norm that is practicing in our society and can be done by everyone whether man or woman older or younger, but I also observe that whenever someone start quarrelling in streets, people gathered at the spot and try to stop them and want to help them in solving their problem. The same situation happens in houses....

So quarrelling aloud seems a proscriptive norm in our society.

Prescriptive norm that is practice in our society:

Is “Shaking hands when meeting someone”....

Justification: Why the mentioned norm is Prescriptive? When we warmly meet someone and shake hands, this actionleaves a good impression on other. Here in Pakistan shaking hands is a common habit among people. I saw many people, when they meet with someone they shakes hand, man shake hand with man and woman with woman. It is our cultural norm. So it’s clear that it is a good prescriptive norm practicing in our society.
