Property Crimes Court Watch-–Upcoming Meeting

Monday, Jan. 9, 2012

6:30 — 7:30 p.m.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church Community Room

1720 E. Minnehaha Parkway (off of 18th Ave S.)

Use the 18th Avenue street-level entrance on the east side of the church.

Property Crimes Court Watch was established in early 2011 in the Third Precinct as a response to the significant increase in property crimes in both home and garage burglaries. Community meetings began in June. Since this Court Watch began, 305 impact statements have been generated for 18 offenders.

This meeting will include a presentation on “Why Child Protection Matters” by a Hennepin County Assistant Attorney. The next meeting will be March 14 and every other month thereafter.

Property Crimes Court Watch is a community-based approach to being involved in the criminal justice process after an offender has been arrested and faces formal charges. Several components are built into a Court Watch:

·  Community resident Co-Chair;

·  Invitation to participate in regularly scheduled precinct-wide community meetings where you will receive updates on those arrested and the

court process;

·  Notification to the community about the need to write impact statements for the courts about repeat burglary offenders;

·  An opportunity to educate judges about the personal impacts of being a victim of a home or garage burglary;

·  Timely information on upcoming court hearings and outcomes;

·  Opportunity to be informed about judges’ actions and court results
