Early Childhood (EC) Internship Applicants Only

Internship Documentation of Hours

Requirement: Documentation of 150 hours of work with children

For: EC CAD majors following CAD Bulletin 2011-12 and beyond

Instructions:

·  Students must submit a letter or email to the CAD Internship Coordinator documenting 150 hours of work (paid/volunteer) in a licensed child-care center (family-child care centers are acceptable if they are licensed). The majority, if not all, of the 150 hours are to be completed at one site/classroom with the same supervising teacher. This is to ensure a concentrated, focused experience where you have become part of a teaching team, received supervision/training regarding your interactions with children, and became an integral part of the classroom in order to build relationships with the children. The 150 hours excludes observation hours (for example, elementary education courses). A maximum of 90 hours from a community college Practicum course can be used toward the 150 required pre-internship hours. A grade in the class must be C or better. Verification by transcript is sufficient documentation (include with your letter of documentation for balance of hours). Please keep a copy of all documentation for your own records.

Documentation and hours completed are due:

1)  Completion of hours and documentation is due to the CAD office by the beginning of the school semester that you are beginning your internship (not necessary to have completed hours when submitting an application). PLEASE keep a copy of this documentation in your own files in case you need to produce it again.

If you submit an email, it must:

1) Be written by a supervisor and/or director of the center (not the student)

2) Be addressed to: Dept. of Child & Adolescent Development, SFSU and sent to:

3) State the student’s name

4) State the number of hours completed; the hours must be supervised (paid/volunteer) and in direct care and interaction with children

5) Include the name, address, phone number of the childcare center

6) Include the license # of the childcare center

7) Include the name and title of the person writing the email

If you submit a letter, it must:

1) Follow the guidelines listed above

2) Be typed on the childcare center letterhead
