I. Welcome Aboard! (9:00 – 9:45)

A.  Welcome Aboard! Introduction to the facilitators, the facilities, and Project WET.

B.  Ice Breaker Activity

II. Splash Through the Guide. (9:45 – 10:15)

A.  Distribute WET books and introduce the book format.

B.  Through facilitator lead scenarios and questions, participants navigate the WET guide to answer questions and select activities.

III. Diving In! (Participate in activities from the Project WET Activity Guide)

A.  “Molecules in Motion” pg. 47 (10:15 – 10:45)

Participants simulate molecular movement of each of water’s physical states.

B.  “The Incredible Journey” pg. 161 (10:45 – 11:30)

Participants simulate the movement of water through the Earth’s systems.

C.  “The Life Box” pg. 76 (11:30 – 12:15) An activity to reinforce and demonstrate the necessities of life and the importance of good water to all living things. Follow up using display materials to create terrariums to take home.

IV. LUNCH (12:15 – 1:15) Take up books before lunch break.

V. Diving Back In! Redistribute books.

A. “Macroinvertebrate Mayhem” pg. 322 (1:15 – 1:45)

An activity to demonstrate macroinvertebrate sensitivity to pollution and how macroinvertebrate populations in a water source may help indicate water quality.

B. “Raining Cats and Dogs” pg. 435 (1:45 – 2:15)

Students Analyze and interpret water sayings to compare figures of speech across cultural and climate zones.

C. “Sum of the Parts” pg. 267 (2:15 – 3:00)

Students demonstrate how everyone contributes to the pollution of a river as it flows through a watershed and recognize that everyone’s contribution can be reduced.

VI. Project WET/Water Course Extensions (3:00 – 3:30)

A.  A Look at Healthy Water, Healthy People.

B.  Water through Literature: Spring Waters – Gathering Places and Rainstick – A Fable.
