Monday Project Read---Unit 17 Lesson 1 Skill: Final Consonant Blends

Teacher will display the following spellings: -ang, -ing, -ong, -ung, -ank, -ink, -onk, -unk, -ck. Teacher will ask what does the dash mean in all these letter combinations? The symbols go at the end of a word. In this lesson you will learn about ending blends.

Teacher will display the following ending blends –st, -sk, -sp, -nt, -nd, -mp. There are 13 ending blends. In this lesson you will work with only 6 of them. The first 3 start with s.

Teacher will begin with –st and tell students dash, /s/, /t/, /st/. Students will skywrite –st 3 times.

Teacher will tell students that you hear it in the word past. Teacher will write the word up and students will practice reading the word with finger blending and tap and sweep.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-5 under the document camera. Students will practice reading -st words 2 times each with finger blending and tap and sweep. Vocabulary of the words will be discussed as needed. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Hot Cross Buns” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

Class will take a look at their spelling word list, read and discuss the list. Students will use remainder of the time to work on spelling homework.

Tuesday Project Read---Unit 17 Lesson 1 Skill: Final Consonant Blends

Class will review –st by skywriting 3 times.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-5 under the document camera. Students will practice rereading –st words 2 times with finger blending and tap and sweep.

Teacher will place the story, “Hot Cross Buns” under the document camera. Students will practice rereading and discussing the story. Oral reading check will be done. Teacher will leave the story up and students will take a short comprehension quiz over the story. Teacher will take up the quizzes and students will use the story to discuss what answers that they should have marked on the quiz.

Teacher will write up the ending consonant blend –sk and say dash, /s/, /k/, stir /sk/. Students will skywrite –sk 3 times.

Teacher will tell students that you hear this blended sound in the word desk. Teacher will write the word up and students will practice reading the

word with finger blending and tap and sweep.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-7 (-sk words) under the document camera. Students will practice reading –sk words 2 times each with finger blending and tap and sweep. Vocabulary of the words will be discussed as needed. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “Ask Mr. Best” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.

If any time left, students will be allowed to work on spelling homework for the rest of the period.

Teacher will place worksheet 17-13 (sentences containing –st, -sk, and –sp words) under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing sentences containing these words. This worksheet will be sent home for reading homework.

Teacher will place the story, “It’s a Musk Hog” under the document camera. Students will practice reading and discussing the story. This story will be sent home for reading homework.
