Wednesday-Lexia Lab (9:00-9:45)

Students will be taken into computer lab and signed into Lexia Reading Core5 computer program. The computer program is an individualized reading curriculum to help students practice and learn foundational reading skills by interacting with the online program, receiving teacher-led Lexia Lessons, and continuing with independent, paper-based practice activities using Lexia Skill Builders. The data will then be captured and reported to the teacher for planning instruction and helping students reach grade-level benchmarks. After returning from the Lexia Lab students will oral read the Bonnie Kline stories “It’s a Northern!”, and “Rover”, then they will be placed in notebook to read each night for homework.

Thursday-Unit 22 Lesson 2 Skill: Pattern VCV

Teacher will review the rules to follow when dividing words into syllables. Teacher will display the pattern VCCV (page 22-13) in the pocket chart. Students will then be ask what VCCV is, and students will discuss it is a cutting pattern for cutting words into syllables. Students will be ask what the letters stand for (V stands for vowel, and C stands for consonant). Students will be ask where do they cut this pattern (between the consonant. Students will then be informed that in this lesson they will be learning a new cutting pattern (VCV). Teacher will display the VCV pattern (page 22-15). Teacher will then have the students say the pattern as a group-vowel, consonant, vowel. Teacher will state that the VCV pattern is often divided after the first vowel. The word music will be displayed in the pocket chart. Teacher will then model labeling VCV showing the long u sound and short I sound. Teacher will then draw a line to divide between the u and s. Students will then oral read the Bonnie Kline Bonnie Kline stories” It’s a Northern!”, and “Rover”, then they will be placed in notebook to read each night for homework.

Friday-Unit 22 Lesson 2 continued Skill: Pattern VCV/Reading Assessment

Teacher will review the rules to follow when dividing words into syllables. Students will refer to the VCCV and VCV patterns previously discussed. The words hello and music will be displayed in the pocket chart. Students will be given Student Practice Sheet 22B, page 22-19, to complete with teacher assistance using the VCCV and VCV pattern. Students will then oral read the Bonnie Kline Bonnie Kline stories” It’s a Northern!”, and “Rover”, then they will be placed in notebook to read each night for homework. Students will then be given the reading comprehension quiz on the story “It’s a Northern!”.
