The Solar System Project

Project Due Date: Monday, February 27th

Each student will choose one product to complete as his/her Solar System assessment. This product will be done at home. We encourage you to help your child to be successful with support but the project is to be completed by the student. We will grade on the effort each child puts into his/her project, the presentation of the product, and the information he/she learned and shares.

Solar System Rap
Create a song or rap about the inner planets and include characteristics about each planet. You need to type out the lyrics and decorate the paper. During the presentation you must perform the song and teach it to the class. / Planet Advertisement
Create an advertisement for your favorite inner planet. Include what features make it your favorite and at least 3 facts about the planet. You must include at least one prop in your advertisement. You will perform the advertisement live for the class! / Famous Scientist
Create a presentation for the class on a famous space scientist and pretend that you are the scientist.
3-Dimential Sun Model
Create a 3D model of the sun. Include the sun, its parts, and their functions. Present the model and teach the class the function of the sun’s parts. / Research
Research and write a report on a space event that has occurred. Create a poster displaying important facts about the event. You will share your poster and read your report to the class. / Board Game
Create a planet board game with pieces, cards, and a game board. Include the rules for playing. Teach the class how to play the game and choose a few students to play a few rounds of the game for the class.
Solar System 3D Model
Create a 3D model of the Solar System. Make sure the planets are labeled and you know 2 facts about each planet. Make sure you label the asteroid belt in your model. / Constellations
Choose your favorite constellation in the night sky. Create a product showing what the constellation looks like, then research and type up facts about the constellation to share with the class. / No Sun
Create a collage of pictures that show all of the ways our life would be different if the sun was no longer shinning. Be prepared to explain your collage to the class and share 3 sun facts.
Diorama
Create a diorama of the solar system with comets, meteors, and asteroids included. They must be in the proper location. Present your diorama to the class along with 3 facts about comets, meteors, and asteroids. / Traveling to the Moon
Pretend you are traveling to the moon. Make a model of the moon and type a letter to the class telling about your preparations and your upcoming trip. Include things like the equipment you may need, things you will be studying when you get to the moon, and how long you plan on being gone. In the letter, you must have a least 3 facts. / Historical Ideas
People use to have strange ideas about the moon (like that it was made of cheese!). Research different historical ideas that people had about the moon and create a scrapbook or poster display of all these interesting ideas. Including 3 facts about the moon. Be prepared to explain the ideas and share your scrapbook.
