PROJECT COORDINATOR – FARMWORKER HEALTH AND SAFETY

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Coordinator (PC) will report to the Project Director and work in close partnership with community-based partners to build their capacity to provide training and education to high-risk farmworkers on the recognition and avoidance of safety and health hazards in their workplaces, and to help farmworkers access high-quality healthcare.The PC will work in close coordination and consultation with the Project Director. This position involves the following tasks:

  • Technical Assistance and Training – Provide leadership and guidance in the development, implementation, and evaluation of capacity building and training initiatives that support community-based efforts around occupational safety and health and access to healthcare in farmworker communities. Focus of the work may include: needs assessments and situational analysis, behavior change communication strategies, participatory training and capacity-building techniques, development and implementation of training curricula, monitoring and evaluation, and dissemination of results through public/professional venues and publications. Materials, trainings and presentations will be developed/delivered in Spanish.
  • Project Administration Support–In collaboration with Project Director, develop and update contracts with partners. Maintain communications with project partners, manage payments, perform logistical coordination of project-related activities and events, and maintain relevant project-related files.
  • Reporting – Manages communication with project funders, including phone calls, in-person meetings, and timely preparation of project reports.
  • Written communications – Participate in the development of project-related documents, including training curricula, conference abstracts and presentations, newsletter articles, content for the FJ web site, and other materials as required.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for the project and FJ at external and internal meetings, conferences, and trainings.
  • Contribute to the development of FJ and fulfilling its mission, participating in project proposal development, staff activities, special events, Board of Directors meetings, etc.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRED SKILLS

  • Fluent in Spanish (written and oral)
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills
  • Minimum of three years of proven experience in occupational or public health or related field.
  • Knowledge of public health strategies, occupational safety and health-related issues, health disparities, health educationand community health centers.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations, particularly those serving rural or farmworker communities.
  • Experience working with promotores de salud (community health workers) and/or farmworker health initiatives.
  • Demonstratedtraining skills, with experience delivering trainings to both professionals and community members.
  • Experience with curriculum writing/development, editing and materials development.
  • Experience in the design and application of qualitative research,community-based participatory research, and monitoring andevaluation methodologies.
