New Employee Orientation is provided to each new employee within the first month of hire. In cases of recertification, a notification deadline will be sent to each employee 60 days prior to recertification. The notification will include the employee’s recertification deadline date. It will be the employee’s responsibility to sign up and attend the course (with manager approval), before the recertification deadline date.

An employee may be excused (test out or demonstrate competence) from courses only if actual class attendance is not required by DIA, OSHA, etc. To test out (or demonstrate competence), the manager must put in writing why they feel this person should be allowed to test out or how they demonstrate competence to be excused. The manager, the appropriate Coordinator and the Director must sign and give a copy to training coordinator. This will be put in the employee’s personnel file and course will be credited or deleted from their training requirements.

A second notice will be sent to each employee 30 days before the training is due. This notice will tell employees to sign up and complete training within the next 30 days to avoid discipline.

If an emergency situation prevents an employee from completing training at the required time, that employee’s manager will put in writing that this was approved and state the nature of emergency. The manager will give a copy of this to the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Department will then schedule the employee for the next available course and follow the procedure.

If required training has not been completed within the month, which it is due, a written warning will be sent to that employee. A copy will be given to the manager and UAW if unit employee. The Human Resource Dept. will send this written warning. This warning will tell the employee that they have been scheduled for the next available course and that they are expected to attend. This notice will also state the consequences of not recertifying. Unless recertified, employees will be deemed no longer qualified for the job and their employment could be terminated. If an employee chooses to take this required training outside of P.I. and the class has been offered at P.I., the cost of the class and employees’ time will not be paid by P.I. If it is necessary to travel to get this training following the written warning, travel time and mileage will not be paid.

Following are mandatory training and skills needed for each position. P.I.’s Leadership Team will review the list at least annually. Courses will not be added or deleted without the Leadership Team approval.

• Prior to working with individuals with a Brain Injury Diagnosis, employees must complete approved Brain Injury Training.

• Prior to working with individuals under the age of 18, employees must complete State approved Child Abuse Reporting Training.
