Students will develop fundamental knowledge and critical perspectives pertaining to urban studies and public affairs.
Students will develop advanced level of expertise within the area of their chosen specialization. / Comprehensive examination :
In the December of 2004, the PhD Faculty decided to define outcomes measures through a rubric as exemplary, satisfactory or unsatisfactory based on the knowledge content of each comprehensive exam question read. / 04-05 is the first academic year the rubrics have been implemented, comparative data is unavailable.
3 students completed the comprehensive exam in Spring 05.
Student 1 = 100% exemplary
Student 2 = 20% exemplary and 80% satisfactory
Student 3 = 41.75% satisfactory and 58.25% unsatisfactory.
40% overall exemplary
40.58% overall satisfactory
19.42% overall unsatisfactory.
Two students were PA specializations and the other was Economic Development.
Student 3 is the only one who scored unsatisfactorily / Results of data are reviewed by the PhD Program Director, Department Chair. Results are reported to the PhD faculty and significant findings are discussed at the fall faculty meeting, appropriate actions are agreed upon. / There have been no significant action in 04-05, this is due to the data collected was only for the Spring semester, faculty are not on contract over the summer, thus delaying any discussion until the beginning of the 05-06 academic year.

Students will acquire the skills to communicate at a professional level within the areas of scholarship and professional practice of their area of expertise. / Evaluation of prospectus presentation (with scoring rubric) / One prospectus was presented in the spring of 2005.
83.33% was scored as exemplary and 16.67% was scored at satisfactory. / Results of data are reviewed by the PhD Program Director, Department Chair.
