49. Foretelling Bimalamaa’sFuture
Bimalamaa had come to Assam BangiyaSaraswataMatha, Kokilamukh when she was a child. On behalf of the matha, Swami Swarupananda was leading the relief effort to people affected by the river Damodar flooding. There he found Bimalamaa, her two brothers, Kenaram and Iswar, and their mother, Karunamaa. The family had lost everything to the floods. With Sri SriThakur’s permission, SwarupanandaMaharaj brought them to matha to give them shelter in Sri GaurangaAnathaNiketan – the unit Sri SriThakur has opened in matha with the intention to provide food and shelter to the destitute. Bimalamaa was the youngest of all children living in matha at that time. Sri SriThakur used to affectionately call her as Bimu. When she was nine years old, Sri SriTakur married her to one of his disciples, DharaniMaiti of Medinipur, West Bengal. Dharanibhai was the only child of his mother, who was a widow. They were extremely poor. His mother was working as a maid to make ends meet. However, she wanted Dharanibhai to be educated and was doing all she could to provide for his education. But, Dharanibhai failed the matriculation examination. Without telling his mother, he then went to the matha. He had read the two books, BrahmacharyaSadhan and YogiGuru, written by Sri SriThakur, borrowing them from the local library. After failing the matriculation test, he could not think of trying again and rather decided to go to matha and live there permanently.
After staying in matha for a few days, when he met with Sri SriThakur for the first time, Thakur told him, “Your apathy towards society is temporary. You would not be able to stay in matha for long. Anyway, stay as long as you want; but, make sure to see me before you leave.”
After a few days, Sri SriThakur asked Dharanibhai to come and see him. At that time, he told him, “Dharani, I have thought about your future. The road you have taken is not the right one for you. It is my wish that you go back to your family and lead an ideal householder’s life. As a matter of fact, I do not see any indication of sannyasa in your life.”
About a couple of weeks later Sri SriThakur suggested Dharanibhai to marry Bimalamaa. When Dharanibhai indicated that his financial situation was the hurdle for him to get married, Sri SriThakur told him, “You do not worry. I will think about that. Rather you go back home and get the opinion of your guardians about this proposal.”
Dharanibhai then went home and returned a few days later to inform Thakur that his mother had agreed to the proposal. Fixing a date for the wedding, Sri SriThakur sent Bimalamaa with an associate to his disciple FaniBhusanMitra’s house in Howrah. On the scheduled date, Bimalamaa and Dharanibhai got married in Fanibhai’s house. From there they both went to Kelamal, Dharanibhai’s village. Staying there for two days, they returned to matha, stopping at Fanibhai’s house on their way. Sri SriThakur asked Dharanibhai to go back home and focus on study. Bimalamaa stayed at matha and Dharanibhai went back to Kelamal. Sri SriThakur paid for Dharanibhai’s educational expenses. With Sri SriThakur’s grace, the next year, Dharanibhai passed the matriculation examination. He also got a job as a ticket checker in Railways with Sri SriThakur’s blessings.
Around1923 Sri SriThakur moved to Puri. Bimalamaa also went with him along with Surabalamaa and a few other associates. There, in order to give Bimalamaa some basic education,Thakur had one of his associates teach her. Then Sri SriThakur sent her to live with her husband. However, she frequently visited Thakur at NilachalKutrira, Puri. During one Durga puja, she had come to Puri with her one and half year old son to spend time with Thakur. She had not visited Thakur after her son was born. Rather, at that time, she had written Thakur a letter asking for suggestions for what to name her son. Thakur had replied with the name “Bibhuti”. Bibhuti was a very handsome child.
During her stay in Puri that time, Bimalamaa was spending her time happily with Sri SriThakur. Days were going by quickly. One day, she had gone to the roof of NilachalaKutira to hang her clothes leaving her son with Surabalamaa on the first floor of the house. Sri SriThakur was sitting on a chair on the first floor and was observing Bimalamaa’s son. After hanging clothes, Bimalamaa was coming down the stairs. Suddenly, she heard Sri SriThakur telling Surabalamaa, “Sura, Bimu’s son will not live for long. He has come only to see me.”
Hearing Sri SriThakur’s words, Bimalamaa felt as if the ground below her feet was parting away. Holding the wall, she stood there like a statue for a while. It took her some time to regain her sense.
Three months after she returned home, Bibhuti became sick with a fever. Suffering for only a few days, he passed away. Sri SriThakur was informed about it. He then called his grief stricken Bimu to NilachalKutira and kept her with him for two months.
