Program Description and Schedule:

The Certificate in Non-Profit Management Course program is designed for persons employed or interested in a career in the non-profit arena to gain management skills, acquire knowledge and understanding about the full range of management requirements and explore strategic direction for the future needs of non-profit organizations. To earn the certificate, students must complete a program that consists of 60 contact hours (6 CEU’s). The program consists of three core classes that meet for 18 contact hours (1.8 CEU’s). For the remaining 42 contact hours the student may choose 7 classes from three broad subject areas that are: Resource Development, Organizational Management, and Special Topics. Each elective class is 6 contact hours (.6 CEU’s).

Core Classes: Students are required to take a core program that consists of 18 contract hours (1.8 CEU’s). The courses include: Leading the Non-Profit Organization (LO), Strategic Planning for the Not-For-Profit Organization (SP), and The Non-Profit Corporation in Nevada (NCN).

Electives: As described above, students are required to select 7 elective classes to successfully complete the Certificate program. Students may select topical areas that are important to them. The topics rotate and the list is augmented as interest grows, wanes or a new topic area is identified. Examples of topics in the area of Resource Development (RD) include: The annual Giving Campaign, Developing a Case for Giving, donor Relations, Essentials of a successful Volunteer Program, Grantwriting, Introduction to Planned Giving, and Special Event Fundraising. Examples of topics in the area of Organizational Management (OM) include: Board Development, Budgeting for the Non-Profit Organization, Developing a Marketing Orientation, Emerging Technologies for the Non-Profit Organization, Financial Reporting Basics, Human Resource Management, Leadership and Ethics, Program Evaluation: Strategies and Techniques, and Volunteer/Staff Roles & Relationships. Examples of special topics (ST) include: Creating a Partnership with your Board of Directors, and Building an Inclusive Organization.
