Job purpose
The post holder provides strategic management and professional leadership of the WSA Library in support of education, research and enterprise. As a member of the Student Education & Skills Leadership Team and Library Policy and Strategy Forum, the postholder will contribute to the strategic development of the Division, taking a lead on a specific area of expertise and contributing to the designing, planning and monitoring of Library Services as a whole. In addition the post holder will lead on aspects of WSA input to the implementation and ongoing work of the Arts Strategy as a member of the Arts Strategy Steering Group
The postholder embeds WSA Library collections and support into the education and research activities of the School, develops communities of practice based on the WSA Library collections for their long term development and use within School activity; promotes approaches to embedded use of collections within the wider University community . The postholder is responsible for the development of strategies for the internal and external profiling of specialist collections in art and design, using these to build reputation and impact.

1.  / Develop and maintain substantial professional knowledge to contribute to the strategic development of Library input to learning and teaching and academic programme development as this relates to the School of Art, supporting Library and University objectives. Work with the Associate Director, Students, Education and Skills to ensure effective alignment with strategic priorities and lead specific development projects as required. / 20 %
2.  / Provide leadership to ensure effective working relationships, integrated development and collaborative approaches between Library teams, with stakeholders and with users at WSA. Ensure that developments and broader Library strategy are responsive to WSA students and stakeholder needs, and support the priorities of the School. / 20 %
3.  / Develop the specialist collections in art and design, implementing strategies for the internal and external profiling of these collections, embedding use in support of education, research and enterprise activities, developing outreach and external events and nurturing strategic partnerships within the library community and externally. / 20 %
4.  / As a member of the Arts Strategy Strategic Leadership Team, lead implementation of appropriate strands of work identified in the Strategy. Champion development and integration of library based arts outreach and public engagement projects into broader Strategy initiatives and lead the development of specific events, activities and projects to support the opening of the Arts Complex and rapid change in this area. / 15%
5.  / Identify and implement strategic objectives for the Winchester School of Art Library developing support and collections to support academic objectives, developing services in response to user needs, changes in library policy and professional developments. / 10 %
6.  / Lead Library input to projects in relation to the physical environment of the School of Art in line with Library Strategic development and in support of University objectives. / 5 %
7.  / Participate in professional and academic bodies and networks to represent the library externally. / 5 %

Library staff at all levels to deliver library services

Member of the University Library Policy and Strategy Forum Students Education & Skills Leadership Team and Arts Strategy Steering Group.
Special Requirements /
Post holders are expected to work flexibly to support the site. This includes an expectation that the post holder will be proactive in building networks and developing knowledge of the learning, teaching and research profile, academic objectives and student feedback relevant to the stakeholders and user community.
Post holders may be asked to contribute to evening or weekend working to support university, academic or library events and will be expected to travel to other UK [1]campus locations to contribute to broader library developments.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications, knowledge and experience / Educated to undergraduate or postgraduate degree level or equivalent and professionally qualified in a field relevant to the post . Or substantial experience in the library or information sector
Sounds knowledge of current developments in Higher Education,
Experience of delivering teaching in a relevant context to groups and individuals
An understanding of the application of technology in the development of learning materials.
Able to apply this experience and awareness to learning and teaching and research.
Able to appreciate University priorities and to apply these in managing work outcomes. / Membership of relevant professional body e.g. CILIP.
A teaching qualification or equivalent
HEA Professional Framework qualification or an interest in working towards this.
Planning and organising / Able to plan and manage major new projects or significant new activities, ensuring plans complement broader strategy.
Able to direct the development of a relevant specialist or professional area from initiating an idea through planning management promotion and evaluation.
