Production Manager – Fabrication

Joining the Lakesmere Group of companies you will become a member of the McMullen Facades Operations department working alongside the Operations Manager, other Factory managers, Supply Chain Manager, Stores Manager, Purchasing Manager and Business Improvement Manager.

Purpose/Objective

The Production Manager is responsible for managing their team to ensure health and safety, quality delivery and efficiency targets are met in their area of the factory. They must also be focused on keeping their team motivated through excellent communication, training and teamwork.

Role

The post holder will:

  • Maintain a high standard of Health & Safety within the Factory, ensuring that:
  • all personnel understand company arrangements for H & S and the responsibilities on them as individuals.
  • all personnel have received training and are aware of the safe use of tools and equipment.
  • regular maintenance is carried out on machinery.
  • machines are maintained in good working order and guarded.
  • factory and stores are kept clean and tidy, and carry out 5S audits
  • Ensure quality of production is to a high standard. Manage your team so that planned quality checks are made on the fabricated product before it is despatched and ensure factory personnel work to the correct documented quality procedure
  • Plan and control production in line with the factory plan so we deliver in line with site requirements
  • Manage team leaders and liaise with them on the general day to day organisation of production.
  • Liaise with despatch in relation to site deliveries.
  • Work with the Operations management team so we deliver our customer requirements
  • Assist Learning & Development to identify and fill skill gaps in your area
  • Promote and participate in business improvement projects
  • Provide weekly reports to accounts office; clock times and job costing the attendance software system.
  • Deal with technical queries that arise on the factory floor, adopting a “hands on” approach. Take corrective action if the query/issue is reoccurring.
  • Deal with employee’s day to day queries, monitor absence and attendance. Keep records of holidays taken, lieu days etc.
  • In conjunction with Operations Manager complete company factory and capacity planning.
  • In conjunction with the HR Coordinator be responsible for recruitment and selection of personnel for fabrication
  • All other duties as may be reasonable required commensurate with job holders level in company.

Person Specification

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications / A Levels or equivalent / 3rd Level qualification
H&S qualification e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH
Experience / Experience in Supervising an assembly team
Experience of Lean Manufacturing implementation
Aluminium Fabrication and Technical Experience or have demonstrated equivalent technical capabilities
Experience of quality management systems
Experience of a high level of Health and Safety awareness within a Factory Environment
Experience in factory planning
Experience in Materials Management / Experience in training and development
Experience in NVQ implementation
Experience in the application of Lean Methodologies
Key Skills / Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
Experience in factory planning

Excellent communication skills (written
and verbal)
