Product Design Engineer

Standard Machine and Manufacturing currently has an opening for a Product Design Engineer. This position is 50/50 lab technician & engineer. This position also maintains the design integrity of existing product lines.

This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Test setup
  • Testing & data measurement
  • Test report generation
  • Engineer new and modified solenoid valves and magnetically operated valves from input from customer/management specifications
  • Develop detailed part and assembly solid models
  • Fit and interference checking for parts and assemblies
  • Review and approve drawings and specifications
  • Determine testing protocol for new products and oversee product testing
  • Manage interaction with suppliers
  • Work with sales, marketing, management, and vendors during the NPD process
  • Work in an informal, fast paced, customer-centric product development team
  • Able to work quickly and be flexible to meet customer and company needs

Requirements:

  • Minimum BSME or equivalent from an accredited engineering college or university
  • SolidWorks modeling (part, assembly)
  • Effective use of MS-Office products
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics a plus
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills - able to interact with internal/external contacts
  • Attitude that fosters positive thinking, flexibility, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent organization skills, initiative, accountability, is detail oriented, and able to balance multiple projects
  • Capable of rapid concept visualization and able to communicate effectively with customers
  • Able to use judgment and independent thinking in the resolution of issues and in the interpretation of data
  • Able to work independently or in team environments

Experience:

  • 0-5 years of experience as a degreed Mechanical Engineer
  • Engineering experience with small scale part design
  • Experience with machining processes
  • Experience with hands on prototyping and testing a plus (3D printing and testing equipment)
  • Experience with FEA simulation tools a plus
  • Injection molded plastic component designis a plus
