Preparation and Submission of This Assignment:

·  Please submit your assignment in paper format (hardcopy). You will submit two files for this assignment, an SPSS output data file and a word document file.

·  This is a group assignment (2-3 student only).

·  In your assignment submission, please ensure that you have included all your group members' names and student ID.

·  Please note that plagiarism is a serious offence. If you are using any references, please cite them properly.

Format:

·  The assignment should be written in font type Times New Roman size 12. Paragraph justify and line spacing 1.5.

The Assignment: Exploratory Data Analysis (10 points)

The data are a total of 80 cases (40 males and 40 females) with each case having 14 variables. These variables are listed below. However, for this assignment, you will only work with 4 variables (Gender, Age, Height and Weight).

1. Gender

2. Age (in years)

3. Height (in inches)

4. Weight (in pounds)

For each chart below that you put in for answer, you must also label it with figure number and title and above each chart you need to write a sentence or two to describe what you see in the chart.

I.  Explain which variables are categorical (qualitative) and which are numerical (quantitative).

Is age continuous or discrete in that sample?

II.  Using “Frequencies” option, copy and paste all relevant histograms. Describe the distributions of the variables Height and Weight for males and females. Are they more or less symmetric, or are they skewed?

III.  Using “Descriptive” option, report the mean, and standard deviation for both the variables Height and Weight for both males and females. Comment on the differences between males and females based on summary statistics.

IV.  Using “Explore” option, get numerical summaries (statistics) for the quantitative variables. For each variable (Height and Weight):

-  Put the variable (Height or Weight) under “Dependent list”.

-  Put Gender under “Factor List”.

-  Make sure that “Both” is selected under “Display”.

V.  Using “Compare Means” option, find the means on Weight, and Height for men, for female and for all combinations of gender.
