PROCEDURE FOR INJURYON DUTY (IOD)
Stellenbosch Campus

  1. All injuries incurred orpossibleoccupational diseases contractedduring working hours inthe executionofofficialdutiesshouldbe reported to the line manageronthe same day orbeforethe end ofthesame shift.
  1. Campus Health Service (CHS) is responsiblefor the medicaltreatmentofinjury on duty (IOD)cases. CHScan be contacted duringoffice hoursat 021 x 808-3496/3492/3490. Sister Anneke van Heerden (021 x 808-3322; ) is responsiblefor the managementofthe programme.
  1. The followingguidelinesapplyduringoffice hours (08:00–17:00):

a)Lightinjuries: Reportto the line manager (see 1 above) and the departmental emergency helper provides treatment.

b)Lessseriousinjuries: Reportto the line manager (see 1 above) and transport the member toCHSat 7 Claassen Street (between Metanoia and Heemstede). CHShasa patient transport service at its disposal. Contact 021 x 808-3496/3490/3492 to make the necessaryarrangements.

c)Seriousinjuries: Reportto the line manager (see 1 above) andarrange ambulance transportat 10177/ 084124 to Mediclinic, Die Boord, Stellenbosch. Also contact Sister Anneke van Heerden atCHS (021 x 808-3322/3496/3490) orMs Alverisha September atthe Remuneration Division (021x 808-4552) to report IOD.

  1. The following guidelines applyoutsideoffice hours (17:00–08:00):

a)Report all injuries or occupational diseases toRisk and Protection Services(Merriman Lane, 021 x 808-2131).

b)Refer all other injuries requiring medical help to Stellenbosch MediclinicEmergencies, Die Boord, Stellenbosch (021 x 861-2094).

c)Transport employees with serious injuries to Mediclinic by ambulance.

  1. AfterCHShas partially completed the employer reporton the injury or disease (WCL2),the report should be fully completedatthe office of Ms Alverisha September (021x808-4552, ), Administration Block C, Remuneration Division, Finance, Room C2316, Victoria Street, Stellenbosch,within 24 hours. The supervisor or direct line manager should do the reporting if the injuredpersoncannot do so. It is obligatory for the report tobe accompanied by acertified copyofthe employee’s IDdocument. Ifa previous medicalreportis available, this should also accompany the report.

  1. Rules regarding sick leave, remunerationandbenefits duringabsence afterIOD:

a)Sick leave: When an injured person is booked off bya doctor due to IOD, this sick leaveis notcaptured on the system againstthe person’s sick leave oranyother kindof leaveto which the person is entitled but is only documentedbythe department andacopyofthe doctor’s certificateis sent toMsAlverisha September.

b)Remuneration: Ifan injured person is on sick leave for morethanthree months, the Universitypays the person’s full remunerationtogetherwith all benefitsdue for the first three months, after whichthe Compensation Commissionerdirectly pays theinjured person 75% oftheperson’s cash salaryup to a maximum of R13 975.00 per monthfor a periodoftwoyears.

c)The Compensation Commissionerpays allthe medicalcostsofthe injured person for the periodthat the person is treated bya doctor up to a maximum periodoftwoyears.

Nocompensationispaid for pain andsuffering.
