/ Video Package-Alaska Middle College- UAA Chugiak-Eagle River began a collaborative with the Mat-Su Borough School District (MSBSD) last fall. About forty Mat-Su Juniors and Seniors who volunteered for this pilot project are going to high school and college at the same time on the UAA Chugiak-Eagle River Campus. / Alaska Native Education Elders: Sharing Their Knowledge and Experiences / Chris Simon grew up in Huslia Alaska. At the time, Huslia didn't have a high school, so Chris moved from his home to live with family friends in Nulato, a village located on the Yukon River. He completed high school in Nulato, and went on to complete his Bachelors degree in education, and a Masters degree in Education Leadership from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
Today Chris Simon serves as the Rural Education Coordinator for the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. /

/ Alaska Native Education Elders: Sharing Their Knowledge and Experiences / Ethan Petticrew received his bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Alaska Southeast, and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction from Ball State University in Indiana. After receiving his degree, he worked as a primary school and high school teacher in various regions of Alaska; including Bristol Bay, South Central, and Southeast. He is currently serving as the vice president of the Alaska Native Heritage Center in Anchorage. /

/ Discussion on National Strategy for the Arctic Region / In May, the Obama Administration released a National Strategy for the Arctic Region. The announcement of the strategy included a commitment to host roundtable discussions in Alaska to discuss how best to move forward with the implementation of the concepts laid out in this National Strategy.
A meeting was held (June 14, 2013) from 2:00 -- 5:00 p.m. in the Gorsuch Commons, University of Alaska Anchorage. White House and Departmental officials were present to discuss the Strategy and answer questions and receive comments. Dr. Brendan Kelly (Assistant Director for Polar Science) talked about the importance of the meeting. /
