BACKGROUND
In 2008, the Faculty of Education/Te Kura Toi Tangata established a postgraduate study award for associate teachers in recognition of their work in supporting the Faculty's initial teacher education programmes and students, and as part of the Faculty's aim to continue fostering strong connections between the University of Waikato and schools and early childhood services.
The Associate Teacher Postgraduate Study Award is available to schools or early childhood services to help cover the costs for associate teachers to undertake 500 (postgraduate) level papers offered by the Faculty of Education.
PRINCIPLES AND DEFINITIONS
1. The Study Award will be known as the Associate Teacher Postgraduate Study Award.
2. An Associate Teacher is defined as a teacher who provides the main source of professional support and guidance for student teachers from the University of Waikato while they are on practicum or placement in schools or early childhood services. The position may also be referred to as Co-ordinating Teacher.
3. The Associate Teacher Postgraduate Study Award is available to those schools or early childhood services where Associate Teacher/s are enrolled in at least one approved 30 point 500 level (postgraduate) level paper offered by the Faculty of Education in any one academic year.
4. The selection of the Study Awards will be made by a Selection Panel, chaired by the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education, and including the Director Centre for Teacher Education (including Secondary), the Associate Director Centre for Teacher Education (Primary), and the Associate Director Centre for Teacher Education (Early Childhood).
5. Selection will be made on the basis of a) the extent that postgraduate study will enhance the candidate's development personally and professionally, and b) the extent that this study will enhance the teaching and learning goals of the candidate's school or early childhood service.
6. Candidates are required to provide a one-page outline of their study intentions with the endorsement of their principal/manager.
7. Each Award has a value of $800 per Associate Teacher, per year.
8. Associate lecturers in partner or CUSP schools qualifiy for full tuition costs (approx $1600) of one master’s paper per year.
9. The Award may be held in conjunction with any other scholarship or award.

11. All schools and early childhood services will be advised in writing of the result of their application.
12. In 2015 applications close at 5.00 pm on the 6TH of March and the 17th of July.
