With summer on its way - hooray - so along comes our annual Summer School. This will be held over the course of one week, 22nd July –26th Julyand is open for pupils aged 7 and above. Ballet, Street, Jazz, Tap, singing and acting will all be taught over the course of the week and on Friday afternoon, parents are invited to observe what the children have been getting up to, which always proves to be popular. The professional teachers are all booked and raring to go so I would urge you to grab a booking form next term before all the places go!

We also have the dates for our biannual show available for you. They are – Sunday6thApril 2014 (Dress Rehearsal) and Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th April 2014 (performances), so please make a note of these in your diaries. Further information about the show will be available later in the year

PUPIL NEWS

I’m sure you will all be pleased to hear that Molly Rees and Lucy Waine have just completed their annual appraisals at The Royal Ballet School and were both awarded Highly Commended which is fantastic! Lucy is now over half way through year seven and has retained her place for another year and Molly is still going from strength to strength in year ten and will also retain her place into year eleven! Both girls are thoroughly enjoying themselves despite the massive work load and extremely demanding schedule. Well done girls!

In November, Annie Rees, Eloise Butterfield and Sophie Chinner took their Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate Foundation Ballet exam. This took place at RAD headquarters in London and all three girls gained the top result – Distinction! This is a huge achievement and is very well deserved as they all worked exceptionally hard – Well done girls!

As some of you may have seen in the local press, three of our pupils auditioned for places in English Youth Ballet and all of them got accepted! They were Sophie Chinner who was awarded the Senior Scholarship, Zoe Turner and Samuel Banks. The production was Sleeping Beauty and took place at The Playhouse Theatre in Weston-Super-Mare earlier in March. The performances went very well and the students enjoyed the experience of dancing with EYB hugely.

Annie Rees has been successful in the first round of auditions for a place with the prestigious National Youth Ballet and is waiting to attend the final audition. We wish you the very best of luck!

NOTICES

We now have our very own notice board up in Stonehouse Community Centre which is located at the far end of the main corridor near the double doors to the hall. Please feel free to put up notices for any dancewear which you may have for sale or simply use it to double check dates etc…

I am aware that an increasing number of pupils – especially the younger pupils - are wearing Velcro ballet shoe elastics. Whilst I can understand the attraction of these “no sew” elastics, I would urge you to try and sew elastics on instead – especially if your child is taking an exam.. The children find that they can easily be dislodged and have to then fiddle about trying to put them back into the correct place! Please can we also remind parents to name all dance kit, especially character skirts, shoes, sweatshirts and wrap around cardigans.

The Intermediate Foundation Ballet class held at Stonehouse on Saturday mornings will be at the slightly earlier time of 11.30am - 12.15pm. This will come into effect at the start of the summer term after the Easter break. I do hope that this will not cause any inconvenience.

If at any point you have any concerns or queries regarding your child’s progress, then please do not hesitate to phone Miss Sally (01453 821072) or myself (01453 825025) and we will be happy to discuss this with you. Alternatively, you can email us on or .
