What is the Principal Mentoring Program?

The Principal Mentoring Program is for Focus and Priority Schools principals. This initiative is designed to build the instructional capacity of a Focus or Priority School Principal by teaming the principal with a Rewards school principal for the purpose of sharing “best practices” while building staff competence around school improvement efforts.

How does the mentoring program work and when will it take place?

The Principal Mentoring Program will convene for both face-to-face sessions and web-based interactive sessions from October 2015-May 2016.

Topics:
  1. Establish the goals and objectives of the program.
  2. Share plan for upcoming activities.
  3. Mentor and Mentee Principals collaborate.

November 2015 – January 2016 / School visits at both Mentor and Mentee sites / 1 Day per visit – 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  1. Mentee Principals invite Mentors to observe their respective school site.
  2. Establish and discuss the Mentee Principals’ goals for that school.
  3. Mentee Principals visit the Mentors’ school site to see and discuss how the “best practices” at the Mentor school are actualized.
  4. Continue to build a relationship between the principals via phone, email, and other mediums.

  • This is an opportunity to review progress, strategize for the remaining months in the program and troubleshoot, if necessary.

  1. Mentee principal with school team to observe identified best practices.
  2. The Mentor will visit the Mentee principals’ school as a culminating activity to observe possible changes implemented as a result of the mentoring relationship.

Readiness of Superintendent to support the participation of the applying principal:

My Superintendent will fully support my participation in the mentoring program face-to-face conference days, visit to Mentor principal school, facilitating visits to my school, participating in the conference calls and interactive web conference sessions. / My Superintendent will not support my participation in the various aspects of the mentoring program.

I understand that my commitment to the Principal Mentoring Program means attending and participating in meetings as described in the abovementioned program schedule and completing all required work products.

I also agree to maintain contact with my mentor principal by phone, e-mail, and visits.
