Dear Parents,

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ SKI COURSES 2016

Three parties of children from a number of Liverpool primary schools and one school from St Helens had the opportunity to attend very successful ski courses, held in AlpeD’Huez and Serre Chevalier, in the French Alps during last winter. Consequently 260 children visited the ski resorts fromsixteen primary schools. They all learnt to ski well and enjoyed a wonderful experience whilst they were away.

I have recently received an invitation from the Liverpool Primary Schools’ Ski Association for our school to be part of the 2016 ski course. Children from present Years 3, 4 and 5 are eligible to attend this course.

The association has negotiated three trips for 2016, which are offered at exactly the same price as last year:

Saturday, 6thFebruary to Saturday, 13th February 2016: Hotel Olympic in Serre Chevalier. The hotel is a very short walk to the slopes and was the subject of a 400 000 Euro upgrade last year.

Saturday, 27thFebruary to Saturday, 5th March 2016: Hotel Beau Soleil Blanche in AlpeD’Huez. The hotel is the best located hotel in the resort being very close to the ski slopes.

Saturday, 12th March to Saturday 19th March 2016: Hotel Olympic in Serre Chevalier.

The ski courses have been booked through the Equity Ski Company, which is one of the most experienced companies as regards the organisation of school trips.

As the courses are growing in popularity with schools I wanted to gauge the support parents from our school may wish to give this exciting venture. Therefore, parents from our school, who wish their children to be considered to take part in the course, are invited to provide me with deposits at an early stage and at least by Thursday 21st May. This will then allow me ask the Association to arrange for our school to take part in one of the ski courses.

The Association has indicated that it will reserve places for our children on the trip to AlpeD’Huez on the 27th February.

The courses are run by very experienced teaching staff, many of whom are qualified headteachers. Staff members provide very high levels of pupil supervision. The courses also include a qualified nurse. As with all our school trips we expect children who do take part to demonstrate a very high standard of behaviour. The children will also need to have a good level of fitness and maturity. We do welcome children who have been on family ski holidays in the past as they will have the opportunity to really extend their skiing skills. However mostly we will be accommodating absolute beginners.

Please complete the attached slip to have your child considered for a place. Return the slip with a holding deposit of £50. This deposit will be refundable should it prove impractical for our school to take part.

To provide more information for you about the skiing, and perhaps to help you make up your mind, I am holding a meeting in the junior school hall on Friday 15th May 2015. Please come along with your child(ren) if you have any interest at all in this exciting initiative.

Yours faithfully,

Mr. J. Long

Assistant Headteacher
