PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION

Develop innovative and evidence based community based social marketing initiatives and community engagement activities that foster sustainable behaviours to reduce waste, dumped rubbish and recycling contamination; and increase resource recovery and community pride

TASKS

  • Assist to develop, maintain and evaluate waste and resource recoverymessages resources and activities, including print and digital media
  • Guide, and empower internal stakeholders, particularly the Resource Recovery and Communication Teams, to develop best practice community education and engagement messages and resources
  • Undertake and analyse community and social research to understand residents’ waste and recycling knowledge, attitudes and behaviours
  • Develop and implement community consultation and initiatives through various methods and techniques to understand residents’ waste and recycling knowledge, attitudes and behaviours
  • Assist with development and implementation of programs, initiatives and resources that link to Council’s waste and resource recovery strategies, policies and contracts, including littering and illegal dumping
  • Manage grants and alternate funding sources,that align with the relevant strategies, policies and plans
  • Provide specialist advice to council,state and local governments, industry and community on waste and resource recovery issues
  • Inform, educate and increase community and corporate awareness on waste and resource recovery issues and actions
  • Assist in the development, delivery and reporting on Council’s Community Plan, Delivery Program, Operational Plans andrelevant Environmental Reporting
  • Assist with the development, implement and review of team plans and budgets
  • Represent Council in state, regional and local government projects, working groups and industry forums
  • Provide support to the Team Leader, Resource Recovery, Manager, Sustainable Future and Director, City Future as required

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualifications in education, communications or similar, and/or relevant industry experience.
  • Class ‘C’ Driver’s Licence.

Skills/Experience

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of resources and environmental behavioural change programs
  • Training in community based social marketing (CBSM) or similar
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated skills in undertaking and interpreting community and social research
  • Proven skills in project management including planning, establishing priorities, evaluation and allocation and management of resources and budget
  • High level communication, interpersonal skills and public presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in report writing including ability to measure, evaluate and meet reporting requirements.
  • High level of computer literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft office software
  • Ability to work in a flexible environment, including weekends, nights and early mornings

Desirable Criteria

Skills/Experience

  • Previous Local or State Government experience in a similar role
  • and knowledge of current and emerging issues/trends of waste and resource recovery issues within Local Government or business
  • Skills in preparing submissions to obtain grant funding
  • Broad understanding of communication and technology tools and their applications to facilitate the role’s purpose
  • Effective complaint handling skills and experience.
