Pride & Prejudice Creative Assessment

In this assessment, you will demonstrate not only your understanding of the plot and characters of Pride & Prejudice, but you will also demonstrate your understanding of the author’s purpose and tone, as well as the relevancy of the text.

Requirements:

●All students must submit an author’s statement of at least one page single-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 point font to explain their creative choices and link these decisions to an explication of how they developed themes from the novel and demonstrated an understand of Austen’s purpose and tone.

●Projects and author’s statements are due in Google Classroom by 8:10 am onMonday, December 18th.

Options Include:

●Staging a scene from the movie, either “in the time period” (I’ll leave it to your creativity how you will set it in “Georgian England”) or modernized

●“Literature Now!”: either submit a script or create a film that covers the entirety of the novel in under 4 minutes

●Write a script/synopsis or create a film that modernizes the movie. Film submission should not be longer than five minutes. Synopsis should not be longer than five pages.

●All the memes: Create your own memes from stills from the movies (be careful that you do not use stills from Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and tell the plot through these original memes. All major plot points must be covered.

●“Live tweet” the novel: Tell the story of Pride and Prejudice in series of “tweets” of 140 characters or less. I will leave it your discretion as to how many tweets you need, but don’t disappoint me.

●Create your own artwork that captures a major aspect of the novel and takes into account Austen’s tone. (You will submit the original to me in class, but should upload a scan or project of it to Classroom.)

●Fan-fiction:

○Continue the story of some or one of the characters in the book.

○Create an alternate ending for one or more characters

○Expand on an existing scene

○Create a new scene that doesn’t exist in the current plotline, but should (Mr. Collins and Charlotte’s wedding, for example).

Be sure that these entries are appropriate: do not mock or call out real people, no offensive language, or vulgar behavior. I don’t want to have to get out my smelling salts!

The essay clearly linked the “thesis” of the project to the theme of the novel. Explanations were insightful and informative. / The author’s statement provides a clear summary of the text, but more details and/or quotes are needed to fully explore the thematic importance of the issue in P & P.
The essay discussed major elements in the project but may need more development on why certain things included and how they related to P & P. / The author’s statement was mainly plot summary with little discussion of thematic important of the novel. The project was discussed, but more analysis needed of why certain elements were included in the project. / These author’s statement are often unacceptably brief and offer little insight into the novel or the project presented.
