Pricing Summary, but Please Read Entire Document:
A $2500 pup is my top price pup. SOMETIMES XANADU has puppies that are $700 (Guardian [breeding] pups), sometimes XANADU has available pups that are between $800 and $1500, and sometimes between $1500-$1850, depending on demand.
At the moment, Pomskies and Goberians are slightly more expensive ($1750-$2250) than Goldendoodles $1850-$2250.(Please ask for Pomsky Description and Pricing doc. and for Goberian Characteristics doc.)
Some reliable Goldendoodlebreeders (who abide by the results of genetic testing, breed, and price accordingly, AND who guarantee their pups for total health, genetic health, and for temperament) charge $2000-$2500(+) for ALL Goldendoodle pups in any given litter.
XANADU Goldendoodles at $1850-$2000 MAY or may not be more expensive than XANADU Aussiepoos ($1500-$2000).
Bernedoodles may range in price between $1500 and $2500.Some breeders charge $4-$5000 for a Bernedoodle puppy from tested and excellent parents.
When you purchase a puppy from a reliable breeder, you should expect a much “better” dog, in terms of general and genetic health than a pup you might find at a shelter. Some breeders do not take their breeding dogs to veterinarians for genetic testing. Some do not tell you what the results of any genetic tests are. Some breeders do not provide routine health care (vaccinations, worming, teeth cleaning, etc., etc., for their breeding dogs. Some will tell you, “Don’t worry; we’ve never had a problem with any of our puppies.”
If I were purchasing a family member and hoped that new family member would live a LONG and HEALTHY and HAPPY life with my family, I would select a breeder very carefully. I would select a puppy very carefully. The right question to ask is, “What are the results of the genetic tests for the sire and dam of this litter?”
Puppy pricing depends on so many variables and combination of variables. Here are some examples:
The original price of the breeding dog(s)—up to $15,000 + (Breeders charge much more for pups of breeding quality from lineages they may have spent a lifetime developing.)
The cost of the breeding dogs’ genetic tests—up to approx. $6000
Stud fee, if an outside stud is used—e.g., our outside Bernese Mt. Dog Stud w/ excellent hips and no testable or known problems will be a $2700 stud fee. And that’s a fair price.
Collection and shipping of chilled or frozen semen, if used—usually two chilled shipments required at about $700 each = $1400. If frozen semen is used, this is a surgical procedure that is more expensive.
Vet-assist breeding by a canine fertility specialist, if needed--expensive.
Any maternity/birthing assistance that is needed—middle-of-the-night after-hours veterinary charges.
Litter size—usually XANADU breaks even at five puppies.
Pricing of Litter Pick pups—Our best cost several hundred dollars more and often help cover the litter’s expenses, if that litter has a small or average number of puppies.
Breeding failures—cost at least $1000, usually $2000.
Breed—Bernedoodles and Pomskies are most expensive, although the Goberians and Doodles are expensive, too—and are fully guaranteed--pups.
Demand—The demand for Border Collies is small, I think because they are very active youngsters; Border Collies are less expensive, while Bordoodles—Border Collies X Goldendoodles = a calmer, low-shed pup that is (once again) priced the same as any high-quality Doodle.
Dew claw removal at 2-3 days old—between $20 per pup and sometimes $50 for a litter.
Puppy check-ups, vaccinations, and worming—usually at 6 weeks before you get your pup and usually $45 per pup.
Advertising, secretarial, web-pro., and kennel help—fairly astronomical.
Etc., etc.
Still, I would buy a pup from a reputable breeder, so I would know my pup’s genetic background, health history and health history of parents, grandparents, etc., so I would know all I could about temperament in his or her lineage, etc. I’d want to know if grandparents are still alive, how old they were when they died and how they died, and if alive--if they have any uncommon old-age problems. And I’d like to know as much as possible about grandparents and ancestors. Breeders don’t always have the answers to all of these questions, but I’d ask and make a decision based on answers to all of my questions.
XANADU puppies are from parents who have had genetic testing and been cleared of genetic problems. Test results are ALL “excellent, good, normal, clear, negative.” XANADU will not breed parent dogs that have an overbite or underbite, who have ANY temperament issues, or who have any known and as yet “untestable” problem, or who only has “fair” hips. Your puppy is guaranteed to be healthy, happy, friendly, loving, and good-natured. XANADU will not sell any pup that does not meet these criteria when that pup goes to his/her new home—your home.
For the most part, my clients come to trust my diligence with "soundness" issues. It is my job to care—to watch out for—my clients, but after temperament, sturdiness is my biggest concern, whether it is general health, ancestral soundness, genetic health (good hips, eyes, stifles, heart, inherited skin problem or any genetically testable issues). With sturdiness as a foundation, longevity becomes a blessing and a blessing for which we intentionally breed. That means XANADU intentionally breeds forhappy, friendly puppies who will enjoy a good-quality life supported by soundness / strength / toughness/and good health into the late teens-to-early-twenties, depending on breed and size. Almost ALL of our lineages have the advantage of having been bred for longevity—and that means that (almost) each lineage has this long-lived breed(s) in their genetic makeup. (Ask for more details.)
Breed development is a XANADU objective. I do not only breed the best dogs I can find for the best homes I can find. This is explained on our website under "Mission." I ask everyone to read that, so they'll be on board with the honesty there and be in agreement with our breeding program objectives and Mission: The Development of the World’s Best Family Dog. Cross-breeds like Goberians and Doodles are not always appreciated by the purebred world. XANADU breeds these Designer Dogs, for three reasons—the Doodles have proven to be marvelous in temperament and no-shed and no-doggie-odor and are to a BIG degree, hypoallenergic and appropriate for MOST people who have allergies. The other reason for breeding Designer pups is that people love them, and I want all of my pups to go to great homes on XANADU’S march toward The World’s Best Family Dog—as a distinct breed—The XANADU. The third reason is the characteristics they bring to the ultimate XANADU—intelligence, low-shed,no-doggie-odor, etc., etc. That list of characteristics is even longer by several times than the number of breeds that are included in our breeding program.
In the top-pricedGoberians, over $2000 means "Litter Pick." In an ordinary litter, there are male and female Litter Pick puppies. The pup(s) that I consider my "best" are also my least expensive; they go to Guardian homes and have between 1 and 3 litters in the future (males can have up to 6 litters). These puppies are XANADU’S breeding dogs for the next 2-4 years. Other Goberian pupscouldbe $1500+, if brown-eyed--maybe.
HOWEVER, there was an almost perfect bi-eyed tri-colored female Goberian in my first litter that I fell in love with; she could read my mind (I breed for that kind of attentiveness, too). But I didn't keep her in XANADU’S Guardian program, because (and the vet said she'd out grow it) she had a slight third beat to her heart--like LUB-DUB-dub—not even a “puppy murmur” but still out of the ordinary. And from the same litter, there was a very sweet, sweet soft-coated bi-color boy that I did keep in the breeding program--and just because of his unusual coat, and that boy has brown eyes.
Please call me if you have questions about your new puppy that I have not answered in these attachments. And thank you for contacting XANADU of the Rockies.
