Chair’s Report
Committee Member Reports
(Reports by committee members on their work in the preceding year such as planning committee sponsored sessions.) / *In 2015, we had two committee-sponsored panels. One was the first time slot of the conference and had very high quality presentations, but low attendance. The second panel was being held at the same time as the current committee meeting.

(Any unfinished or postponed business from last year’s meeting.)
New Business
(New items such as electing a committee chair, planning committee sponsored sessions and other committee activities.) / *Vivian Varela is the chair of thiscocmmittee but was undable to attend the PSAs in 2015. Maura Kelly will be acting as chair for this meeting.
*From Amy Denissen: Update on PSA committee terms of service; Committee on committees is seeking new members to fill vacant slots on the committee
*The commitee requests that JaDee Carathers be appointed for a three year term.
*Other members (not appointed): Diana Corrral, Erin Savoia, Melanie Mijares, Brianda Gumbs
*Guests (non-members): Guillermo Rebolledo, Lain Mathers
*The committee is waiting to hear if committee-sponsored panels can be included in the online submission system for 2016. If committee-sponsored panels are organized outside of the online submission system, the committee will sponsor an invited panel. The committee will sponsor at least one panel for 2016 (organized by JaDee Carathers). Possible topics include: Trans Lives and the State, Queer Bodies, Intersectional LGBTQ Studies
*In 2015, one panel sponsored by the committee was in the first time slot and had low attendance. The second panel sponsored by the committee was held at the same time as the committee meeting. The committee requests closer attention to scheduling for 2016 to maximize attendance at committee sponsored panels and the committee meeting.
*As observed by several attendees at this meeting: At an undergraduate presentation session in 2015, a panelpresider made transphobic comments that were highly inappropriate in any context. The committee is particularly concerned about supporting the research of undergraduates, our most junior colleagues in LGBTQ studies. The committee requests that in future, the PSA session organizers choose appropriate presiders for undergraduate presentations related to LGBTQ studies; the Committee on the Status of LGBTQ Persons in Sociology can provide volunteers from our committee who can fill these roles as needed.
