St. Francis PFN Meeting Minutes

  • PFN Photos – Need good photos of high image quality to post on the school website. Volunteer/s needed to take photos with a good camera on Taco day and following special events.
  • PFN Aprons – Will ask Jane to order some new aprons..
  • School PA – Work is in progress to improve the school PA system.

Treasurer’s Report: - Gina Lahm.

Bank balance at date of meeting $4,252.77. Gina is in the process of finalising correct wording on new PFN Bank Cheques. Jennyne will have the cheque and deposit book whilst Gina is away. Please forward any PFN reimbursement claims to Jennyne. Jo Shorrock and Jennyne are PFN bank signatories.

Jennyne will look into requirements to record funds raised by PFN as amounts ‘in trust’ and details of how funds are to be used.

ACTION: Jennyne to inform Gina of requirements re Funds ‘in trust’.

GENERAL BUSINESS:-

  1. Pie Drive Report – Fabulous fundraiser with a total profit of $1,180! Congratulations to everyone for taking part especially the Waldron Family who sold over $1,100 worth of pies! A very big thank you to Gina Lahm for co-ordinating this successful fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who helped on pie delivery/pick up day.

ACTION: Gina to present PFN Cheque at Assembly on Friday 13th (Fundraising total of $1,526.20 includes funds from Pie Drive, Sorbet Day and Mother’s Day Stall) – Photo to go into newsletter.

ACTION: 2017 Pie Drive to be held at the same time of the year – Early May.

  1. Mother’s Day Stall & Liturgy Report – A very big thank you to Jo Shorrock for co-ordinating the Mother’s Day Stall which once again went very well. ($820 in takings, profit of $272 using some remaining 2015 stock). Great turnout for the Mother’s Day Liturgy and a lovely atmosphere with parents being able to enjoy a cuppa & morning tea, toddlers playing with toys and a beautiful liturgy from Father Junray. Great to see so many students proudly showing their mums around, our chooks were high on the list of places to see.
  2. Wodonga Council Community Grant Application – Email update from Dale Smith – Dale has looked at the grant criteria and decided further work is needed before submitting an application. Will aim to submit an application in the next financial year.

ACTION: Dale to prepare and bring points for discussion to next PFN meeting.

  1. Bonfire Night – Friday 17th June, 4pm
  • CFA Check - Brett Myers has reviewed recommended location and approved from safety perspective.
  • Music – Chelsea Knight is booked for the night.
  • Power/Generator – Tinkler Family have one generator that can be used. Need to power urns, music amp and floodlights.
  • Safety – Jennyne would like to visit the bonfire site to assess safety needs. Will visit top bonfire site. Suggestion to use a barrier (rope and star pickets) to create a safety zone around the fire.
  • Glow Sticks – Will sell for $1 each.

ACTION: Jennyne, Natalie, Amanda and Jeff Cave to walk around bonfire site and assess safety needs.

ACTION: Brett and Matt Tinkler to consolidate piles and make one large pile.

ACTION: Nicole has offered donation of Milo

Things to organise:-

  • Need to source another generator to use.
  • Cups – Need to decide on PFN plastic cups or disposable cups with lids
  • Need to set price for sausages
  • Need volunteers to purchase milk, sausages
  • Need volunteers to set up trestle tables x3
  • Need volunteers to serve milo
  • Need volunteers to cook & serve sausages
  • Need to Purchase glow sticks (Jane) Need to confirm quantity
  1. Trivia Night – Survey Monkey not completed at this stage. Will plan a St Francis Trivia Night for 2017. Will arrange a Trivia Social Night in Term 3 at St Ives. Jo M to organise.
  1. St Francis Country Fair Update – Friday 28th October
  • Gazebos – Have access to 9 school/CEW gazebos.
  • Tallangatta CWA – Invited to run a Cake Stall. Committee will forward Fair details to them closer to the date.
  • Amanda presented a very detailed budget which included event planning details. Refer to document.
  • Pizza Vendor – to take part in the Fair they would like an agreement to cover costs of any unsold pizza slices from a total of 200 slices - 1 (large) slice is $7. Will ask if they could cater for 100 slices rather than 200.
  • Classroom teachers have been selecting which stall or activities their class will co-ordinate. Staff are excited and appreciate all the ideas and information from the Fair Committee. Jennyne to finalise with staff.
  • Photographer – For future marketing of Fair it would be good to have good quality photos taken on the day. Will check if we have any parent volunteers or look at other options.
  • Kiss the Pig – Possible candidates include Jennyne, Father Junray, Anne Tremethick and a student.
  • Art Show – Art work will be displayed along the tennis court fence. Will look at having a free art and craft activity.
  • Fair Publicity – Will aim to have an article in the Border Mail and Sandpiper

ACTION: Amanda to make a PFN request in the newsletter for volunteers with photography skills willing to take photos at special events and the Fair.

ACTION: Fair Committee will ask school community Re: Lend of portable gazebos

  1. St Francis Website update – All PFN minutes are uploaded. Will aim to streamline the sharing of information and upload minutes ASAP. Need high quality photos.
  1. 2016 List of School Events – ACTION: Natalie to finalise and circulate
  1. Parent Skill Set - ACTION: Nat to pass information to Jane for inputting into database.
  1. Dan Petro – Jennyne has emailed a request for future possible workshop with Dan.
  1. Forum Feedback – Topic - Strategic Planning – Great to be involved and have the opportunity to discuss important concepts. Parents commented that they were not sure what the process would involve but were very glad they came along. Strategic planning is an ongoing process and there will be further opportunities to contribute feedback once all the information has been collated.
  1. ANZAC Day March Feedback – Approximately 30 children from St Francis attended. Amanda and Bern were delighted with such a great turn out. Participating children were well behaved, were respectful and loved being a part of it. Great event for the school to be involved in. Zoe McGregor noted that St Francis students could participate in their local March at Tangambalanga, Yackandandah, etc. School banner was tricky for students to hold. For 2017 could use a lengthwise banner or one connected to a pole which can be held upright.

  1. Open Day Feedback – Great day! School is looking fabulous. Attended by new and existing families. More families are making appointments to have an individual school tour with Jennyne. Great feedback on hearing Jennyne speak about St Francis on the Radio, our new school sign, our beautiful classrooms, the Investigations Area, our school choir and even our new school umbrellas. Senior students were highly motivated and proud to show visitors around on school tours. All students enjoyed having Star FM on site and seeing the arrival of more school chooks.

NEW BUSINESS:-

  1. National Walk Safely to School Day – Friday 20th May - Great initiative. All in favour of taking part. Meeting place will be Baranduda Oval. Amanda will forward information to Natalie for newsletter, facebook and webpage. Will check if Kerrie Kerr can assist.
  1. PFN Food Days – Taco Day Friday 20th May. 2 Serving stations with Subway style service. 12 volunteers are needed for Salad prep and to cook Taco Mince before lunch (11am). 2 to serve, 2 to replenish supplies, at least 2 to clean up and pack away.

Soup Day planned for Friday 10th June. Soup and Fresh Bread Roll. Dawn Farrugia has offered one pot of homemade soup.

ACTION: Call for volunteer to be placed on facebook -

ACTION: Jane Tinkler and Jo Shorrock to discuss food safety requirements eg: Transporting food cooked off site for future food days.

  1. Wodonga Children’s Fair – Added to June agenda.
  2. Catholic Identity Survey – Waiting for surveys to be collated
  3. Parish – June 5th St Francis Morning Tea Duty – 8:30am and 10:30am. Packaged biscuits can be brought to school on Friday 3rd. Freshly made cakes and slices to be delivered to Sacred Heart Church on the Sunday morning.
