Freudenberg Filtration Technologies’ products used in aircraft manufacturer’s paintshops

The Weinheim-based specialists for air quality in surface technology applications will at the PaintExpo 2012 be showcasing energy-efficient, cost-cutting filter concepts

Weinheim, Germany, 15 January 2012. The Viledon® filters, backed up by the Viledon® filterCair service support operation from Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, have for many years now been used successfully in paint-spray booths for cars at well-nigh all major automakers. Now Freudenberg is conquering the airways as well: in the paintshops of a major aircraft manufacturer, the Viledon® Compact pocket filters produced in Weinheim, Germany, ensure that the aircraft concerned can be painted in a professionalized, affordable and eco-friendly process. At the PaintExpo, the world’s premier trade fair for industrial paint-spray technology, users will have an opportunity to familiarize themselves with filter concepts designed to ensure improved energy-efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Superlative filter performance coupled with low energy consumption

In the intake and exhaust air filtration systems at the paintshops of an aircraft manufacturer, the 2-stage filtration system featuring Viledon Compact pocket filters of Filter Class F6 prevents harmful dust and fiber particles from penetrating as far as the actual painting zone. By virtue of the filters’ long useful lifetimes and their superlative energy-efficiency characteristics, they assure the aircraft manufacturer concerned of cost-economical, eco-friendly painting jobs. A crucial argument for companies operating painting systems: the filters’ long useful lifetimes mean that they have to be replaced less frequently, and that signifies lower maintenance costs and reduced downtimes at the system. Besides the useful lifetime, energy consumption is a vital factor. Up to 2,900 MWh of energy costs can be saved using Viledon pocket filters in six painting halls, which means that at the facility concerned the environmental impact is reduced by 1,720 fewer tons of CO2 emissions.

“Energy-efficiency is playing a progressively more important role when it comes to purchasing filters in large-scale engineered systems”, explains Otto Fritz, Sales Manager Germany/Scandinavia at Freudenberg Filtration Technologies. “Companies naturally wish to downsize their energy costs, but the vast majority are also aware of their responsibility for sustainable eco-management. Freudenberg Filtration Technologies can provide the right filtering solutions for this”.

Energy consumption rendered visible: Viledon and EUROVENT energy efficiency classification

In order to make it easier for users to choose the most efficient air filters possible, Freudenberg Filtration Technologies has several years ago already developed an energy-efficiency classification system that enables filters to be rated and compared in terms of their consumption costs. They can be assessed against a series of five energy classes, where Classes 1 and 2 signify particularly energy-economical behavior, and Class 5 particularly energy-profligate characteristics. On the basis of this system, formulated by Freudenberg, the European Association of Air Handling and Refrigerating Equipment Manufacturers (EUROVENT) has recently defined a European energy-efficiency classification system that has been published in EUROVENT Document 4/11 and comes into force as from 2012. In accordance with this energy-efficiency classification as defined by EUROVENT 4/11, Freudenberg recommends air filters of Energy-Efficiency Classes A to C for energy-optimized operation of HVAC systems – ensuring simultaneous compliance with the filter efficiencies required for good room air quality. This corresponds to Viledon® Energy-Efficiency Classes 1 and 2.

PaintExpo 2012, Hall 2, Stand 2428

Freudenberg Filtration Technologies will be exhibiting at the PaintExpo in Karlsruhe, Germany, from 17 to 20 April. Besides Viledon® filter products, the stand will also be showcasing the Viledon® filterCair service capabilities, a package featuring a comprehensive program of filters, supportive services and reassuring warranties, aimed at optimizing painting processes, increasing line availability levels and cutting the operating costs involved. The exhibits will be complemented by a live demonstration, where dirt-in-paint examinations are simulated.

With its Viledon® and micronAir® brands, Freudenberg Filtration Technologies ranks among the world’s leaders in terms of air and liquid filtration, particularly in the fields of energy, health care, automotive/transport, general ventilation technology and sophisticated special applications. The company is part of the Freudenberg Group, which subsumes a large number of business segments, including Filtration and Nonwovens, Seals and Vibration Control Technology, Household Products and Special Products. In 2010, the Freudenberg Group was employing 34,000 people in 59 different countries for a turnover of around 5.4 billion euros.
