Press Release – “My Friend Miss Flint”

For its October season, Dural Musical Society presents the delightful situation comedy ‘My Friend Miss Flint’. Directed by John Nawotka and Eddie Bruce, this production brings to life the script penned by Donald Churchill and Peter Yeldham.

Set in the UK in the early 1980’s, we find ourselves in an apartment owned by Tom Lambert, botanist and TV gardening personality. It is the night after a party, and Tom receives a call from Inland Revenue, the Taxation Office, enquiring about his public relations consultant Joanna Flint. He can honestly say he has never heard of her, but by lunchtime, courtesy of his ex-wife who is also his accountant, he knows all about Miss Flint and realises that he could be in a lot of trouble with the taxation office. His tricky situation sets the stage for a sparkling comedy of the type we have come to expect of UK situation comedies. In the ensuing turmoil we discover that a number of characters are not what they first appeared to be, and as the confusions unravel in a most entertaining manner you’ll head off home with a smile.

The cast includes DMS favourite Ben Wilson-Hill as Tom Lambert, with Cheralee Heynes in the role of his ex-wife, and Eddie Bruce as his twice-weekly cleaner. Kate Gandy, Karen Smyth and Dennis Channells provide the characters that bring the twists and turns in the show. Peter Yeldham is a home grown playwrightwhose extensive writing career began with short stories, radio scripts and a column for a weekly magazine. He spent twenty years in England, becoming a leading screenwriter for films and television, and also wrote plays for the theatre, including the highly successful comedies Birds on the Wing and Fringe Benefits. His work with Donald Churchill on My Friend Miss Flint has produced a topical and entertaining show that all of us can relate to.
