The Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus, Vasilios Philippou, entered as Académico de Número (Number Scholar) to the Mexican Academy of international law at a ceremony held in the University Club of Mexico on June 24, 2010. During the entrance ceremony, Ambassador Philippou spoke briefly about the history of Cyprus, related to the exercise of international law, as well as the relationship between Cyprus and the EU. As part of the said Protocol, the Ambassador of Cyprus received the proclamation of membership as academic number, receive in this manner the distinctive bonnet, the decoration of the Mexican order of law, culture and peace as well as the Diploma Honoris Causa by the Mexican Academy of international law. In addition, Dr. Alfonso Muñoz from Cote, General Secretary of the Academy of international law, recognized the work of the Republic of Cyprus as a crucial support in the UN for the solution of international conflicts. Also, members of the presidium demonstrated the importance of international law in difficult moments between the relationship of countries, especially when this is accompanied by the position of neighbourhood between States. The event was closed by the President of the Board of the Academy, Dr. Manuel Reguera Rodriguez with the intonation of the Mexican national anthem, then accompanied by the national anthem of Cyprus and the honours to the respective flags. Subsequent to the closure, it tasted wine and snacks.
