GREENDALE TENNIS CLUB TARADALE

PRESIDENTS REPORT FOR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 22 JULY 2015

Welcome to the Greendale Tennis Club Annual General Meeting for 2015. This year has been one of consolidation with a new committee.

The club is very fortunate indeed to have had the voluntary services of some great and dedicated members on the committee. Everyone has stepped up and ensured we have had a successful year of tennis and remain in a strong and stable position for this finiancial year. Our auditor Simon Cowan has expressed his satisfaction with the financial management and situation of the club for 2015.

I want to thank sincerely the 2015 committee - Treasurer Suzanna TAYLOR, Club Captain Bruce TAYLOR, Secretary Deb BEHAGUE, Junior coordinator Ian SMITH, Club Coach Luke DONOVAN, Membership Manager Deb BEHAGUE and Tori ROBERTS, Fundraising - Sue Kay, Sarah SHAND, Ian MORLEY – for all the work he does to keep the courts and complex in great shape, Sue SHANNON, Anna LEE and a special mention to Irene O’MALLEY who has agreed to her nomination as Club captain for the incoming season. Also to Mike ASHWELL, Peter DURHAM and Marie THOMAS for their contribution to the TSA.

This year we lose our secretary Deb BEHAGUE who has worked tirelessly setting up the Promato system, and undertaken dual roles of membership and secretary at times. We wish her all the best and hope to see her back on the courts as soon as possible. Also our Club Captain and Vice President Bruce TAYLOR who has moved to Taupo. No doubt there will be new members elected tonight to carry the mantle of those stepping down. Once again thanks so much for all you have done.

I will again stand for President this year however it will be my last year if re elected, the time for new blood is at hand.

I also want to acknowledge the contribution of members who have assisted the club over the year, forgive me if you are not mentioned; Luke Donovan and Ian Smith, our mentor/club auditor Simon Cowan, Lindsay Bird, Jan McLellan, Dorothy LUMSDEN and all involved in interclub teams men’s and women’s, Mike Ashwell TSA, Junior coaches, junior interclub parents and junior coaches, seniors who have manned the club day boards and helped at working bees. All these people and many others have given substantially of their time to provide your club the with a better playing environment and experience. Every member needs to think about how they can contribute to their club. And then do it!

This year it is planned to prepare a strategic plan for the club and look at how we administer the club. The issue of a club secretary confronts the club again and we need to address this.

The club year itself has been a successful one with another great Spring Doubles Tournament, and another one coming up very soon. The junior tournament was again run as a closed tournament on a club day which saw great participation again from the junior club and parents. Lindsay Bird and Robin Smith ran the Womens Midweek tournament supported by Glenn Roberts Pharmacy which again was well supported.

Interplanetary competitions are also proving more popular than ever and have become very competitive. Thanks to Tony HARRIS for continuing to run these. They have gone exceptionally well with very close encounters in the Spring and Autumn rounds. The Premier Mens and Women’s competitions have again proven very successful.

The club champs could do with more support and with strong membership numbers should be attracting greater numbers. I would like to see more entries in all grades, no matter your level of skill. The club prizegiving was run on a Friday evening again as for last year, combined with our Junior club. The turnout was somewhat disappointing compared to past years so I hope for a better response next year. Well done to Tash for taking home just about all the wine prizes.

We have discussed the issue of subs this year and with last years rise we are in a good position. No further rise will be needed this year and hopefully can be held for some time if our running costs aren’t impacted this year.

Finally, thanks for attending the AGM, an important functionof any club year. I look forward to your continued support.
