PRESIDENTS REPORTAPRIL 2012

Hi everyone,

A quarter of the year has gone already, now we have the usual burst of public of public holidays where we usually try and take advantage of any long weekends. Easter is at a good time this year being in the middle of school holidays which I think might alleviate the rush a bit, Barb and I will be part of that rush going to Maryborough to see our daughter and her family before they move to Ingham for three years.

I would like to encourage everyone to try to attend as many club runs, meetings and events as possible, as our membership is continuing to grow these events provide a great avenue to get to know each other better and share our interest and knowledge. I know it is impossible to attend everything, our busy lifestyle and commitments often demands our time elsewhere, but please take a moment to send an apology, to myself or Todd for the meetings or Matt or the organizer for runs and events. It helps to know if we need to wait a little longer before we leave and understand you are aware of the event.

It was disappointing to hear only two cars turned up for Ian’s run and I worry this sort of thing can discourage people to want to get involved and organize events.

I hope you all had a great Easter,

Happy Motoring

Allan Benvenuti

Sad News;

Michael Bishop’s Father passed away just recently. So on behalf of the club I wish to pass on our sincere sympathy.

Club Run March 2012

An Observation Run

Well my run was down for the 25 March being the day after the election. Leslie and I had planned an observation run around the dam with a prize for 1st and 2nd. I realized that the number of participants was going to be down as the date clashed with the Ormiston Swap Meet and some members would have had a late night watching the election results. I am thankful for Basil & Bernice and Todd & Victoria for turning up for the run as they ended up getting me out of a bit of bother with the Black Stallion.

My FJ has had starting problems since the November run. Following the starter motor and voltage regulator being rebuilt by my friends at David Jones Auto Electrical at Campbell Street, Herston, I felt it was safe to take the FJ on the club run. It all went wrong when I stopped to get some fuel at a Brendale servo. Got the fuel, paid for it went to start the car and heard the fateful sound of a motor straining to start, you have all heard the sound. Couldn’t clutch start it either! Ghad; what now I thought. Lucky that Leslie kept her head. I opted to get a cab to the Park and inform those waiting of my quandary. On arrival it was obvious that there were only two (2) members gathered for the run.

We talked about different options and it was decided that we try and jump start the car and then go to my place for mornos. Basil, with Todd following, kindly went to his place for some jumper leads and then on to the servo. You wouldn’t believe it but the @#$%^ black stallion decided to start first pop. Anyway, long story short, we all ended up on my back deck enjoying a great view and great company.

The 1st and 2nd prize was a selection of my famous Anzac Biscuits, (and no they are not dunkers) so I had no trouble with selecting the prize winners. They must have enjoyed the biscuits as I have not heard any adverse reports.

That’s one of the good things about being in our car club, there is always a member willing to help out with anything from technical advice, to sourcing car parts or experts in a trade related matter. I have kept the questions and will use them when my turn comes about next time. I am driving to Roma for the Easter in the Country Rally so I hope the Black Stallion doesn’t play up again.

Ian and Leslie
