President’s CommentsDr. Joyce Loveday
Dr. Loveday was unable to attend. Mr. Kelly announced for Joyce that this Cabinet will be involved in the Strategic Planning during the Board of Trustees retreat on January 19, 2018. Details will follow.
Enrollment UpdateScott Latiolais
Mr. Latiolais reported that quarter-to-quarter enrollment is up for the first time since 2009. Scottrequested that members of the Outreach and Recruitment committees self-score their outcomes and submit them to him for a presentation to the Board of Trustees. Scott also stated that the new Welcome Center is currently scheduled to be inhabited on January 20. The President will move upstairs next week. Scott gave special thanks to Mr. Kaniss and his crew for their paint and other extra work on the Welcome Center.
College AssemblyReportRich Hines
Mr. Hines reported that no meeting was held the first week of the quarter, so the next meeting is January 16.
ASG ReportCal Erwin-Svoboda
Mr. Erwin-Svoboda stated the first ASG meeting was scheduled for today. The priority would be to fill the vacant presidency. Cal also informed the Cabinet that ASG had sent out information about resources and events to students. They have made a good connection with students, including hiring 11 new student leaders, mainly peer ambassadors and backfilling committee members. Cal indicated that the budget process will be through January 16th through February 16th.
Strategic Plan Presentation:NursingMyra Griffin
Ms. Griffin explained that nursing has a mandate from the nursing commission, including pass rates, retention, and completion during the six-quarter, 150 percent period. The RN program is using new methods to increase the NCLEX pass rates for their students, including peer mentoring, dosage calculation help in the Tutoring Center, and I-BEST of the PN program. Many students have been out of school for 20 years, and others are ESL, finding the terminology challenging. The program is now using Kaplan NCLEX prep throughout the program, which helps students identify areas of additional study for the exam. The future may include a concept-based program. By 2020 the program must have national accreditation.
Data DriveScott Latiolais and Dean Kelly
Mr. Kelly handed out a document of data from the counseling center. Students now log in, answer a few questions, and create a queue for advisors to help students in order of arrival. With the walk-in hours of 9-3 everyday has come a big increase in students. Dean noted that November is busiest for fall for registration with 601 student walk-ins. Most students come for help with their Ed plan. He also stated that Work First and Worker Retraining students are increasing.
Mr. Latiolais said enrollment services will be tracking student contacts as Counseling/Advising is. Scott handed out a Student Success Dashboard and Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s). He noted interventions, outcomes, and data collection – for instance the fall calling campaign to over 600 students who failed to register. Group registration is expected to decrease calling campaign numbers. Group registrations captured 82% of students, and is scaling up. He noted that requiring students to meet with an advisor before dropping a class should reduce dropouts. Finally, Scott requested that if anyone wants other data tracked, please let him know.
First Week ReviewDean Kelly
Ms. Edmunds reported that she visited a lot of programs over the first week. Mabel noted that most programs were programs were going through a thorough orientation, including a thorough review of the syllabus. She appreciated the extra support from Student Success to helpstudents get registered.
ctcLink Update
Ms. Joseph reported that she and Ms. Fortson will be attending the Common Process Workshop, as will Ms. Mowry and her staff next week. This will mean reduced coverage in their offices.
Communication Regarding Changes/UpdatesAll
- Mr. Kelly will be attending a national conduct officers conference and looks forward to formalizing our processes, including how we respond to students who threaten instructors. Dean also asked for three to four lines or a paragraph about what each of our new schools are to help explain why they are grouped together.
- Ms. Mowry advised the Cabinet that with four of her staff out, they will be really short staffed.
- Ms. Jeter reminded everyone that the deadline for one-time budget requests is 1/31, and a Bldg. 17 would be experiencing IT outages over the weekend during an upgrade.
- Mr. Scott requested feedback as soon as possible on the new website, which goes live on 2/3. He hopes that Guided Pathways team members will work on it during the GP retreat next week.
- Mr. Kaniss said Maintenance is moving storage to Bldg. 5. Workorder response will be limited while moving is going on. John also request that anyone with something stored in the warehouse must retrieve it now, or it will be consigned to removal.
- Mr. Walker announced that 3/28 is staff professional development. There will be a keynote speaker and the campus will be closed. Kirk requested that everyone inform their staff.
- Ms. Crochet altered everyone that anyone with unspent funds for Perkins must talk with her immediately.
