  • District school council rep – November: No report available
  • Casino report : Tracy has reported that Wilson is still 3 years away from their Casino. Wilson applied last year and needs this fundraising in order to meet school modernization needs. David will contact the gaming commission to explore this further.
  • Blue cross grant: The blue cross grant was applied for. This would be $50,000.00. The school is keeping their fingers crossed, however is a difficult grant to obtain.

7:10 p.m. School Report

Dean:

  • Modernization update: There was a water break that was caught and cleaned up. Beginning of December they will begin to build walls and put the wing back together. Dean is meeting with the contractor weekly to review progress. Construction is coming along well, in the expected time-lines.
  • Staff professional development : staff went on a retreat where all the literacy units were developed. Students will start 2A literacy in December. Teachers reviewed the 10 competencies and reviewed 3A numeracy units. With the grants the school has received students will have some amazing literacy units, materials have all been ordered.
  • Upcoming events:
  • Nov 19 Live Different Assembly – “HOPE”: this will be an amazing assembly to wrap up the anti-bullying week.
  • Nov 25 Club basketball starts: close to 80 boys and 80 girls showed up for tryouts. Students who are not placed on the school team will have the opportunity to attend club basketball.
  • Nov 27-28 – Wolverine Tip Off Classic
  • Nov 30 Exploratory 2A Literacy starts
  • Dec 3 Winter concert 7 p.m. – all students and families are invited to attend.
  • Dec 4 Day of mindfulness
  • Dec 7 report cards
  • Dec 17 Movie Mill Grade 8
  • Dec 18 Agora day Grade 6 – reindeer games gr. 8

Cayley:

  • CTBS results have been used to place students into literacy and numeracy classes, and the teachers are now well prepared to offer these classes and help students progress in their literacy and numeracy skills
  • we are still working out the kinks, but we are very pleased with the new ISP and IPP program from the District
  • our next focus is on ensuring that all of our ELL students have been benchmarked - this is occurring in the last week of November
  • Honour Roll:

Honours at Wilson Middle School = 84.5% or higher

Weightings:

·4 core = 1.0 each

·Regular Options = 0.5 each

·PE = 0.5 each

·Exp Options = 0.25 each

Brad:

  • Volleyball teams all represented Wilson well. Both finished in final 4 of LSAA play
  • Basketball ID camps started November 8th - great turnout
  • Tip off tourney - November 27/28
  • We are going to host jamborees for our JV teams in January: the team will play 2 games in a night to allow the JV team to get more games into the season.
  • Remembrance Day assembly was great once again
  • Play auditions go November 16-20th
  • Winter concert - December 3rd at 7:00 pm
