Proclamation Character Day 2015
WHEREAS good character in our employees and students is the foundation of our schools,
WHEREAS developing a caring school culture is a proven predictor of increased academic achievement, fewer disciplinary problems and improved social and emotional skills,
WHEREAS Muskogee Public Schools has shown a dedication to improved schools through its promotion and celebration of Schools of Character by the Oklahoma State Department of Education,
WHEREAS the Oklahoma Legislature has publicly supported and recognized Muskogee Public Schools State Schools of Character,
WHEREAS since 2010 MPS has had a growing number of Schools of Character named by Character.org and the Oklahoma State Department of Education, and all of these schools serve as outstanding examples of positive school climates,
WHEREAS through Schools of Character we see how focusing on character in schools helps develop young people, who are both smart and good, thus fostering future generations of citizens who will keep our state great,
WHEREAS September 18, 2015, is Character Day: A global event purposed to develop character skills to empower all people to flourish in the 21st century,
WHEREAS September 18, 2015, is proclaimed Character Day in Oklahoma by Governor May Fallin and Character Day in Muskogee by Mayor Bob Coburn,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that, the Muskogee Board of Education proclaims September 18, 2015, as Character Day in all Muskogee schools.
