1. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Students will demonstrate competence in writing, reading, and speaking.
- Present ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral communications
- Master commonly employed French grammatical structures and syntax
- Demonstrate the ability to speak and write effectively on subject matter contained in the curriculum.
Exams, quizzes and compositions will be based on appropriate rubrics. / Exit interview. The exit interviews will confirm that 85 % of the students demonstrate the ability to speak effectively on subject matter, as defined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. (e.g., answer questions thoroughly, ease of expression and high level of fluency)

2. CRITICAL THINKING: Apply critical thinking to learning and real world situations.
- Develop their critical thinking abilities making connection between language, literature, and culture through provoking reading about the culture, the political and social situations reflected in the piece of work.
- Critically interpret literary works by Spanish writers of various genres, periods, traditions, and ethnic backgrounds.
Exams, quizzes and compositions will be based on appropriate rubrics. / Exit interview. The interview will confirm that 85% of the students will demonstrate the ability of interpretation, critical thinking as well as analytical skills by using correct, lucid, and cogent rhetorical strategies in lingua. (e.g., adequate semantic, free of error in mechanics, usage, grammar and spelling)

CULTURAL DIVERSITY: demonstrate an appreciation for differences among people.
- Students will demonstrate the ability to study different socio-cultural-cultural norms and can react with awareness of such differences, and compare them to their own culture.
Journals, portfolios and research papers will be graded based on appropriate rubrics. / Exit interview. The interview will confirm that 85% of the students demonstrate knowledge, understanding and appreciation for differences among people as well are informed about other culture than they were before. (e.g., students are involved in study abroad and/or foreign exchange program for a minimum of one summer or semester).

ETHICAL VALUES: demonstrate personal responsibility and integrity in academic and personal situations.
- To increase their awareness and understanding of French culture
- Students will focus on personal growth and learning.

5. LIFE-LONG LEARNING: demonstrate an appreciation for further education and self-improvement.
- Students will demonstrate knowledge of the French culture will help to understand world issues in the area of art, technology, science, politics, history, and values that will aid the student in setting goals and making choices in their personal life.

6. COLLABORATION: Work in groups to complete tasks. Students will demonstrate
- Ability to function in different capacities in different team settings
- Ability to discuss and evaluate ideas with others on the team
Research papers and oral presentations and will be graded based on appropriate rubrics. / The interview will confirm that 90% of the students demonstrate the ability to learn the concepts involved in French language and Culture team projects (team function, team roles, common goal, utilizing strengths of team members) and each student must participate in 1 such experience of duration 4 weeks or more (internships/study abroad, departmental team projects, or community projects, such as mentor or tutorial).

7. TECHNOLOGY LITERACY: Apply technology to achieve educational success. Students will be able to
- use technology to enhance communication and practice with the language.
- use technology to access information, via the web for example, and to make presentations through for example power point for Literature and Civilization classes.
- use word processing for writing and editing assignments; create multimedia presentations;
Research papers and oral presentations and will be graded based on appropriate rubrics / The interview will confirm that 90% of the students demonstrate the ability to use technology in communicating, collaborating, conducting research, and solving problems. They will also participate in activities that encourage lifelong learning and will promote equitable, ethical, and legal use of computer/technology resources and apply basic troubleshooting strategies as needed.
