  1. Call to Order – The meeting was called to order by D. Bertch at 8:30 a.m.
  1. Minutes of April 22, 2009 – The minutes of April 22, 2009 were approved as distributed.
  1. Cabinet Update – D. Bertch provided an update from the April 28, 2009 Cabinet meeting. Minutes will be forthcoming once approved.
  1. Fast Track Funding – Effective July 1, 2009 the State is changing how they allocate Fast-track funds. Discussed how KVCC might better plan travel requests to receive these funds. This topic will be placed on the May 20 agenda for further discussion.
  1. Dean’s Role
  2. D. Bertch asked that by May 20 each dean provide a written report regarding their role as a dean including responsibilities and expectations. This topic will be placed on the May 20 agenda.
  1. Strengths Discussion
  2. J. Taylor reported that approximately 30 staff will attend the Introduction to Talents & Strengths workshop on June 19. The deans’ area and the faculty reception area will be staffed.
  1. Reality Check
  • Dates for book buybacks for the winter semester were discussed.

  • To Cynthia Schauer, Gordon Bielby, Tami Port, Mary Walter, and Alyssa Sloan for their assistance with the biology poster presentations in the Commons.
  • To Linda Noteboom for her assistance with KAFI.
  • To Karen Matson for taking on additional responsibilities during Linda Rzoska’s sabbatical.
  • To students Tom Wrench for his inaugural show in the Momentum Gallery and to Nick Postema for his inaugural show in the Central Gallery. Both shows open Friday, May 1, 2009
  • To Laura Cosby and our counselors for providing their service to our students who responded to this last weekend’s house fire.
  1. Travel/Professional Development - None
  1. Other
  • Heard that Governor Granholm will issue an Executive Order next week.
  • CNM graduates art work will be displayed in five galleries during the Art Hop on Friday, May 1, 2009 from 5-7pm.
  • Discussed the apparent increase in citations of plagiarism this semester.
  • D. Dawson reported that KVCC was not awarded a grant for our 2009 “Steel My Summer” camp.”
  • J. Taylor noted that the 2009-2010 Perkins application is due the end of May and that a meeting is scheduled later this morning with appropriate staff.
  • Nick Rankin, Amy Louallen, and Nancy Taylor will join us May 6 to discuss On Boarding.
  • A draft of the Faculty Instructional Manual was distributed for deans review. Revisions/corrections should be brought to the May 6 meeting.
  • The draft 2010-2011 academic calendar was distributed to Cabinet on April 28 and will be on the Cabinet’s next agenda.
  1. Next Meeting – The next meeting will be on May 6, 2009 at 8:30 a.m. in Room 4380.
