CHINA 2010

The most common question about traveling is of course about the money needed. The following is a breakdown of the amount of money that students would have to have to travel. It is not just the price of the trip that you have to take into account…

STUDENTS: (Ages 14-23)

Pre-Tour Money: (MUST BE PAID BY 99 DAYS BEFORE DEPARTURE)

Program Fee:$2440.00 (Includes breakfast, dinner, airfare, hotels,

Tour director, entrance fees, bus and

Possibly train trips.)

Departure Fees: $369.00 (These are regulated by airports and the

government. They just went up to this

amount due to recent world events. This

fee could possibly change again.)

Weekend Supplement$35.00 (This is charged if we depart on a

weekend, which is a more expensive

flight)

Lifetime Membership:$95.00 (All first time travelers with EF are

charged this fee. If you have traveled

with EF in the past, you don’t have to

pay this fee at all.)

______

TOTAL:$2, 939 (Adults add $335.00)

All-Inclusive Insurance Option………………………………………….$125.00

This is just what the title assures you it is…an option, so we didn’t include it in the above total, but we highly recommend that you get it for the peace of mind that it provides! This includes medical, baggage, and tour cancellation insurance for a very reasonable price. But, you do not have to pay this if you do not want to!

Passport:…………………………………………………………………..$97.00

If you already have a passport, then you don’t have this cost, but if not, you will need to apply and pay for a passport.

College Credit:…………………………………………………………….$120/credit hr

This is also an option for students. They can earn from one to five credit hours.

On-Tour Money: (Some of this will need to be given to Ms. Schaefer at the final group meeting in July. These amounts are marked with an asterisk.)

*Tips:$120.00 ($80 per person for tour director, $50 per

person for bus drivers and local guides)

*First Aid Kit stock:$5.00 (This covers all the necessities the tour

leaders have to carry with them, including

over the counter medicines, bandaids, etc.)

*Emergency Money:$50.00 (This is only just in case something

happens and a student is stranded without

money. This is rarely given out. Parents

will get it back at the airport on our return

if it wasn’t used.)

Spending Money:$360.00 (This is calculated at a rate of $40.00 a day.

Students only have to buy lunch each day.)

TOTAL: $535.00 (This is an approximate figure as

students often bring differing spending

money amounts.)

The best way to access money on this trip:

In China, students need debit or credit cards to carry their money, as well as getting money exchanged into Chinese currency before we go. Do not use traveler’s checks as they are very hard to use. Long before we go on the trip, students need to have a bank account that they can use to keep their money in. Talk to your bank about the possibilities. We will be pacing the kids in letting them know how much money they need to get out at a time.

Other Money Considerations:

You will also have to have the right size luggage, buy a luggage strap to identify your luggage easily, get a calling card (we HIGHLY recommend EF’s card), and buy all of the other things you need when traveling like clothing and fun little travel things. Know that travel abroad is never a cheap option, but if you can manage it, it is worth every single penny!
