Continue to practice with my videos on Youtube. My channel name isMsPhoOrchestra

1.Continue to practice D major scales and their different rhythms

·  Think about your bowing. Are you using different amounts of bow for different rhythms? The answer should be yes!

·  Play through the D major scale using the following rhythms: Peanut Butter Sandwich, Motorcycle, Run Pony, Jingle Bells, Wichsand Butterpeanut

o  Play through D major using half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and 16th notes. Here are the ratios:

o  1 half note

o  2 quarter notes

o  4 eighth notes

o  8 sixteenth notes

2.Review pages in the Sound Innovations Supplement Packet from last week.

Review open strings, bow directions and bow lifts

Practice our rhythms on open strings

Practice notes on the D string

Practice notes on the A string

Terms you should know: Down bow, up bow, bow lift, all terms on p. 4, 8th notes, quarter notes, quarter rests

3.Practice with your CD! It really does help. You can listen to the track the first time to hear how fast it is and how it sounds, then you can play it the second time through.

4. Practice Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and its rhythm variations (Peanut Butter Sandwich, Run Pony, Motor Cycle, etc...). Use the handout with the notes on it, or you can practice it with notes on p. 15 in your book!

5. This week in class, we will be continuing to read notes on the D and A string and we will begin to use our class book.

Pages 5-16 in your book cover the same material as our Supplement Packet. Start to look for connections between what the packet covers and what the book reinforces.

6.Begin to work on pages 10-15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 in the Sound Innovations Bookfor preparation for next week. These will cover exercises #33-66.Make sure you know the following terms (they are in the blue boxes on the page):

-Key Signature

-Theme

-Composer

-Bowing lanes (or Bow Highway)

-Interval

-Bow speed

-1st and second endings

7. If all goes well, you will receive your Fall Concert Packet next week in class. We will begin working on the songs in the packet, which we will perform on our Fall Concert. The music is already posted on my website under "Orchestra Music" and on Schoology.

Happy practicing!
