Science Olympiad Team Information Sheet

Practice Information:

  • Practices are Tuesday and Thursday in A140 after school until 3:45. If practice needs to be cancelled for any reason, an announcement will be made.
  • Practices are highly encouraged. Attendance will be recorded. If you cannot come to a practice, other arrangements with a coach MUST be made. Other time must then be dedicated to Science Olympiad. If this does not occur, you may lose your spot on the team.
  • Practicing safely is necessary. During any given practice, potentially dangerous tools and chemicals will be in use. If any of these are misused, your spot on the team will be in jeopardy.
  • The coaches will determine which events you will practice for based upon what you are best suited for and your interests.

Invitational Competition Information:

  • This yearwe are again planning to participate in the Rustin Invitational competition on Saturday, December 17that Bayard Rustin High School in West Chester, PA. Competition will last all day!
  • Only 18 team members maycompete however all team members may attend. Attendance for non-competing members is NOT mandatory.

Regional and State Competition information:

  • The Regional Competition is on Saturday, March 25st, and the State Competition is on

Saturday, April 22nd. Please tell your family about these two dates.

  • ONLY 15 members will be allowed to compete at each competition however all team members may attend the competitions. Attendance for non-competing members is NOT mandatory.
  • Competitions last all day. Be prepared to leave VERY early and return late.
  • We compete as a TEAM, so support one another. We only move on to the next level if the TEAM performs well as a whole.
  • The top 3-5 teams at regionals move on to states, and the top two teams from states move on to nationals.
  • Awards are not only given to top placing teams, but for individual events as well. Each member has the chance at winning medals if they place in the top 5 for that particular event.

Competition Spots:

  • The fifteen spotsfor the regional and state competitions will be determined after the Invitational competition. Once determined, these spots are not set in stone and can be taken away for any of the following reasons:
  • School grades of C or lower
  • Missing practice without making other arrangements
  • Acting in ways that may risk the safety of others
  • Using practice time inappropriately
  • Coach discretion based on other reasons
