PPCAANDTHEAUSTRALIACOUNCILANNOUNCERECORDINGGRANTS

PPCAand the AustraliaCounciltodayannounced therecipientsoffivegrantsoffered underajointinitiativebetweenthetwoorganisations.

Throughthe partnership, five grantsof$15,000 wereofferedto assistAustralianartistscreate newsoundrecordings.

PPCAwasdelightedto be able topartnerwiththe Australia Council,drawingontheCouncil’sextensiveexpertisemanagingpeerassessedgrantprogramsforthe arts sector.

MinisterfortheArts,Senator Brandiswelcomedthis valuablepartnershiptosupportmusicians.

“The Australian Government strongly supports partnerships suchas thisonebetweentheAustraliaCounciland thePPCAwhich contributeto Australia’s reputation forartisticexcellenceontheworldstage.Iwishtheartistseverysuccess,” SenatorBrandissaid.

AustraliaCouncilChief ExecutiveOfficer TonyGrybowskisaid theCouncil waspleased tobeworkingwithakeyindustry partnerlike thePPCAonthisimportantinitiative.

“Thesegrantsrepresentoursharedambitiontosupportoutstandingartistsrealise theircreativepotential,and I’mpleased to seemusiciansfrom arange ofgenres havebeen successful,”MrGrybowskisaid.

Afterarigorous applicationprocess, recipientsofthesecondPPCAAustraliaCouncilgrants have beenchosenacrossarange ofgenresfromjazztoclassicalandcontemporary singer-songwriters:

  • Singer-songwriterandguitaristMiaDysontorecord andreleasethreeEPsover12months.EachEP willbe recorded ina different citywithadifferent producer(JoePisapia,Erin “Syd”Sidney andBenTolliday).
  • AlexMassowithSydney-based jazzgroupTheVampires will recordtheir fifthalbumfeaturingcollaborationswithWestAfrican-born andUS-based guitarist/vocalistLionel Loueke andproducedbybassistLloydSwanton(The Necks).
  • GenevieveCampbell will createa bodyofnewworkbasedontraditional Tiwi songsfeaturingcollaboratorTeresitaPuruntatameri.
  • LukeHowardwillrecord his second soloalbumof contemporary chambermusicfeaturingcollaboratorsDanielFarrugia, LeonardGrigoryanandRyanMonro.
  • TheGrowl torecordtheir third full-length album in Los Angeles.

Inaddition, Courtney Barnett, arecipientof thefirstround ofPPCAAustraliaCouncil grants,todayhasreleasedheralbum‘SometimesIsit andthink,and sometimesI justsit’throughMilkRecords/ RemoteControl.
