JOBPURPOSE

  • Tobea very high performing classroompractitioner whoconsistentlydeliversthe higheststandards ofteaching,embraces our vision andintegrated curriculumand ensuresthatour studentsachievethe highestoutcomes inMathematics and in numeracy across the curriculum.
  • Toperformallthe professionaldutiesofateacherunderthe direction oftheLead forEnglish and the VicePrincipal.

DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES

PrincipalResponsibilities

  • To ensurethat thevision and valuesofSouth Devon UTCareevident ineveryaspect ofthe role;
  • Toleadbyexample and modelthehighestprofessionalstandardstostaff,students,parentsandpartners inall aspects oftherole;
  • Workingwithothercolleagues,playan activerole in delivering the South Devon UTC priorities,cultureand vision;
  • Tocontributetothedevelopment plan forthe department and theSouth Devon UTC;
  • Toplay an activerole inthemarketing and recruitmentofstudents,parentalreviewsandotherevents atthe South Devon UTC;
  • To meetregularlywith the Lead forEnglish and beaccountableforyour ownPerformance Appraisal;
  • Toattendmeetings asrequired;
  • To ensureeffectiveuseofresourcesto the benefitofall staffand students;
  • Tocomplywith health andsafety rulesand legislation,ensuring thesafety of studentsand staffat all times;
  • Tobeinvolved in theenrichment programmeforthe South Devon UTC;
  • To maintain discipline in accordancewiththe policiesand proceduresfortheSouth Devon UTCandtoencouragegood practicewithregard topunctuality,attendance,behaviour,standardsofworkand independent learning;

Curriculum

  • Toworkwith theEnglish department todevelopand implement employerchallenge projects and relevantprogrammesof study;
  • To engagewithemployerstodevelop learneremployabilityskills,ensuring workrelated learningexperiencesare atthecoreofthe South Devon UTCcurriculum;
  • To workwithother departmentsto mapinothersubjectareasinto the challenge projects.

Teachingand Learning

  • To ensure ahigh qualitylearningexperienceforstudentsthatengagesandexcitesthem.
  • Topromotethehigheststandards of teaching andlearning,sharebestpracticewithothercurriculumareasand develop theAcademymodelforoutstanding learning;
  • Tobecommittedto continueimprovement inteaching practice to ensurestudentsachieveoutstandingoutcomes;
  • Todemonstrate outstanding teaching acrossthe full abilityrangefromYears10to13;
  • Toprovide avariety of learningmaterialsandresourcesforuse ineducationalactivities andtoidentifyand selectdifferentresourcesandmethodsto meetstudents' varying needs;
  • To establish apurposeful and safelearning environment;
  • To ensurelearning is relevantfor allstudentsaccording totheireducationalneeds;
  • To maintain anddevelopan excellent knowledgeandunderstanding of thesubjectareaandrelated pedagogy,including thecontribution thatEnglish canmaketocross-curricularlearning;
  • To makeeffectiveuseof an appropriaterangeofobservation,assessment,monitoringandrecording strategies;
  • Todevelop schemesofworkand lesson plans in conjunctionwith theLead forEnglish and withotherdepartments as relevant;

  • Todesign opportunitiesforstudentsto developtheir literacy,numeracy, ICTandthinking andlearning skillsappropriatewithintheirphaseand context;

  • To ensurethat schemesofwork,including lesson plans, arein placethat willenableaccesstothe highestgradesbyall students inall coursestaughtinEnglish;
  • To keep upto datewith developments inthe curriculumarea,teachingmethodsandresourcesand makerelevantchangesto schemesofwork andlesson plans asappropriate;
  • Tohold positivevaluesandattitudesandadopthigh standards of behaviour in yourprofessionalrole.

Assessment,Recordingand Reporting:

  • Toassesstheachievementoflearningobjectiveswithin sessions andreflect thisinownteachingpracticeandthe learning ofstudents;
  • To evaluateperformanceofstudent’swithinyour lessons,providing feedbackforparents,students, staff and SLT;
  • Toassessstudentworkregularlywithtimelyfeedback,settingtargetsforimprovement;
  • To ensurethatlearnersmeet andexceed thetargetstheyaresetand areawareofwhattheyneed todotoimprove;
  • To ensurethat theAssessment,Reporting andRecording policy isadheredtoforlearnerswithinyour lessons;
  • Toassessin linewith Awarding Body requirementsandensurethat it istimely.

Pastoralduties:

  • To be an active Learning Company (pastoral) tutor with an identified cohort of learners across all years.
  • To follow the pastoral system policies and procedures as identified by the Director of Pastoral and Additional Education Needs;
  • To deliver effective pastoral sessions this is likely to include Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural values (SMSC), Personal, Social, Health and Economic education( PSHE), Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CAIG) and pastoral reviews;
  • To conduct individual reviews with your identified cohort developing an Individual Education Plan for each of them;
  • To act as the main point of contact with parents for the identified cohort of learners and perform reviews with them.

Allouracademic staffwillbe measured againstthe teachers’standards.

Anyotherduties commensuratewith the levelof thispostand as directed bythe Principal.
