The 32ndAnnual Clinical Conference on Diabetes is calling for abstract submissions for poster presentation during the conference. The theme of this year’s conference is Patient Centered Care: Taking It Tothe Next Level, taking a look at progress made in our current understanding and treatment of diabetes and at what the future of diabetes treatment may entail. We welcome submissions related to this theme to share with conference attendees.

Poster presentations will be displayed at the event providing an opportunity for you to showcase your accomplishments at your institution or facility. Poster presentations also provide an opportunity for networking with colleagues.

Poster Display Times: Thursday, May 25, 2017, 5:00pm – 7:00pm

Friday May 26, 2017 7:00am-7:45am and 9:45am-10:15am

Saturday May 27, 2017 7:00am-7:45am and 9:45am-10:15am

Submission Deadline: Noon EST, Sunday, March 5, 2017

Submission Fee:None.

Disclosure Information: As a provider of continuing education, it is the Association's policy to ensure balance, independence, objectivity, and scientific rigor in all of its educational activities. The ADA has implemented a policy where everyone who is in a position to control the content of an educational activity must disclose all relevant financial relationships with any commercial interest. This information is required of all authors for each submitted poster. A disclosure form will be provided if the poster is accepted.

Travel/Registration Fees: Expenses associated with abstract presentation (e.g., airfare, lodging) are the responsibility of the presenting author(s). Presenters must register for the meeting and pay the Clinical Conference attendee registration fee. Please plan to register for the meeting and reserve your room early, as the host hotel may sell out quickly. In the event you register for the meeting and your poster submission was ultimately not accepted for presentation, you may request a refund of your registration fee, less a $50.00 (USD) administrative fee, up until Monday, April 10, 2017. This extension of the conference cancellation policy applies only to individuals submitting posters that are not accepted. Travel grants are not available.

Guidelines:

  1. Poster size no larger than 3’ x 4’ – portrait preferred.
  2. At least one author/presenter of the poster needs to be a registered conference participant and be present during poster display times to answer questions.
  3. Posters need to be mounted by 4:30pm Thursday, May 25, 2017. ADA will provide display boards, push pins. Posters need be removed at11:00am, Saturday, May 27, 2017. Posters remaining after11:30am on Saturday, May 27, 2017 will be discarded. ADA does not accept responsibility for discarded posters.
  1. Poster must include the following elements:
  2. Title at top of poster, lettering should be at least 2 inches high
  3. Author(s) and affiliations, lettering should be at least 1 inch high
  4. Arrange poster in a neat and orderly manner.
  5. Simple readable fonts to be used, such as Arial, Times New Roman, Tahoma, etc. Avoid all uppercase letters for subheadings or text. Use a dark color for text for readability.
  6. No materials/attachments should extend beyond the perimeters of the poster
  7. Keep charts/drawings/illustrations simple as posters are viewed beyond the regular reading distances of a handout.
  8. Poster should be self-explanatory, supplementary handouts if needed, must be provided by the author(s).
  9. Brand names/company/service promotions are not allowed.
  10. At least one author must register for the ADA Clinical Conference.

  1. Participants at this event includephysicians, PA’s, ARNPs, RNs, RDs, Pharmacists and other health care professions. Please use approved medical terminology, clarifying when needed for use in a mixed audience.

Selection Criteria: Originality of work, adequacy of data, and clarity of exposition are the determinants in the selection of posters. The final decision with respect to selection will be made by the Association's Clinical Conference Planning Committee by the end of March 2017. The following criteria will be considered as part of the judging process:

  1. Relevance to conference target audience and theme.
  2. Innovation.
  3. Information presented provides a clear understanding of the topic.
  4. Information is timely and expected to be of interest to participants.

The abstracts will be reviewed by a judging committee. The committee will invite the top 3 submissionsto present their information in a continuing education workshop during the conference. The judging process will be completed on March 31, 2017, and those invited to display and/or participate in oral presentations notified by April 7, 2017.

Oral Presentation: Oral presentations are 20 minutes in length, with up to 5 minutes for Q & A. All presenters must remain in the room until for a 15 minute Q&A at the end of the 90 minute session. If your poster is selected for an oral presentation, you will be notified no later than April 8. In the event the designated presenting author is unable to attend, it is the author’s responsibility to assign a co-author to present and to immediately contact egarding any presenting author change. Be sure to include the new presenting author’s name, email address, and contact phone number in your message. Please bring current business cards or written contact information to distribute if asked by participants.

Suggested examples:

  • Successful community campaign or project relating to diabetes management, diabetes prevention, pre-diabetes, obesity prevention.
  • Innovative approach to improving diabetes outcomes.
  • Educational tools and/or educational strategies to improve patient adherence.
