Project Coordinator, RightsNow!

Mobility International USA (MIUSA), a national nonprofit organization founded in 1981, advances the rights and leadership skills of people with disabilities globally. MIUSA seeks a dynamic and experienced full-time Project Coordinator for the RightsNow! Project. Qualified candidates will have excellent website management, communication skills and logistics planning experience. Previous experience or advanced degree in communications, and personal or professional disability experience preferred. This is a full-time position reporting to the Project Manager and is based in Eugene, Oregon USA.

Position Description of Responsibilities

Website management and content production (

  • Coordinate, assign, draft, review, approve and track content for the website
  • Lead and facilitate collaboration among team members to create and publish new content to the website
  • Post new content to the website, proof, and update pages to ensure they are current and accurate
  • Ensure branding and accessible web standards are utilized consistently

Communications:

  • Coordinate and manage a work plan to produce a regular E-news Bulletin
  • Manage social media marketing plan and posts
  • Track project data such as web statistics, published content, subscription lists, click rates and evaluation data.
  • Coordinate interpreters for translation of select content
  • Utilize and create content for the MIUSA website and social media to promote RightsNow! and related activities

Technical AssistanceProject Support:

  • Facilitate collaboration among the technical assistance team and the U.S. Consortium to arrange consultations with U.S. experts, and to develop new resources for the resource center and technical assistance activities.
  • Provide logistical support in the design and delivery of in-person technical assistance trips, which may include scheduling meetings, gathering background research needed prior to trips, and arranging travel, hotel, supplies and disability-related accommodations
  • Track technical assistance activities, and maintain organized and updated technical assistance files

Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience with journalism, web design and/or communications or related field desired
  • Ability to write content for social media and website
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and computer skills
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Drive, and graphic design programs such as Photoshop and InDesign; experience with HTML, Mailchimp, Salesforce, and Drupal desired; video production skills desired
  • Understanding of disability from a rights-based perspective
  • English fluency required. Spanish fluency highly desired.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills including proofreading and copyediting
  • Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail, telephone, Skype, video relay, instant messaging and other mediums
  • Experience with social media including Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Blogs, YouTube, Flickr, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build relationships and foster networking
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to maintain a helpful, positive, and professional demeanor and exercise courtesy, professionalism, and tact in contacts with the general public.
  • Passion for empowering people with disabilities in international contexts

Description of the Project

MIUSA administers the ‘RightsNow! Strong Communities through Enforcing the Rights of Persons with Disabilities’ project in partnership with a U.S. Consortium of three leading organizations: Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), and the U.S. International Council on Disabilities (USICD). The project is currently working in six countries: Armenia, Guatemala, Kenya, Mexico, Peru and Vietnam. RightsNow! is funded by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor of the U.S. Department of State.

Project Goal: To build the capacity of Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) to promote implementation of the law to protect the rights of people with disabilities.

Project Objectives:

Objective 1: Strengthen the knowledge and capacity of DPOs to effectively promote implementation and enforcement of disability rights legislation.

Objective 2: Create sustainable coalitions between DPOs, civil society organizations (CSOs) and governments to advocate for disability rights.

Objective 3: Share advocacy experiences through networking and creation of a global clearinghouse.
