Post title: Midday Assistant/Play Leader

Responsible to: Principal, Assistant Vice Principal, Lead MDA/PL

Purpose of the job: Acting as part of a team, to take care and control of all the children on the school premises during the midday break between the morning and afternoon teaching sessions.

Key tasks:

·  To maintain the safety, welfare and good conduct of the pupils during the midday break.

·  To assist children in selecting their meal and sitting in an appropriate place in the dining hall and picnic areas.

·  To assist children with eating their meal appropriately.

·  To supervise the clearing of tables when meals are finished and clear up any associated spillages.

·  To enforce the necessary sanctions for maintaining good order in line with the school’s Behaviours Policy.

·  To administer basic first aid as required.

·  To keep daily records of first aid administered and any other relevant records that may be needed.

·  To provide pastoral care, guidance and routine advice to pupils as appropriate.

·  Where necessary and appropriate to lead games and activities with the children.

·  To alert Lead Midday Assistant/Play Leader and/or Teachers of any concerns regarding an individual child or group of children.

·  To understand and apply school policies in relation to health, safety, welfare and behaviour of pupils.

·  To attend relevant training and meetings as required.

·  To respect confidentiality at all times.

General

·  To undertake any training appropriate to the post.

·  Support, uphold and contribute to the development of the school's equal rights policies and practices in respect of both employment issues and the delivery of services to the community.

·  The duties above are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required by the Head of School to carry out appropriate duties within the context of the job, skills and grade.

On a Day to Day Basis

Lead Play Leader / Play Leaders
Ethos: To promote and engage children in positive play experiences.
Oversees the smooth running of play provision at lunchtimes
Responsible for Play Leaders and provision e.g. rotas of activities, breadth of opportunities
Organise ‘supply’ Play leaders when necessary
Supports wet play provision
Supports incidents and/or problems occurring in playgrounds/play areas feeding back to Class Teachers using agreed approach
Liaises with SIT when necessary
Organises First Aiders
Does not get involved with packed lunches and dinners apart from supporting children’s lines from outside to inside
Does not get involved with the serving of food / Trained Play Leaders (trained in positive play experiences and behaviour management)
Organise and supervise play opportunities in Infant and Junior playground and fields
Support children/lines/ classes coming in for lunch
Support incidents and/or problems occurring at lunchtimes feeding back to Class Teachers using agreed approach
Supervise wet play provision in classes
Do not get involved with packed lunches and dinners apart from supporting children’s lines from outside to inside
Do not get involved with the serving of food
Lead MDA / Midday Assistants
Ethos: To create a calm and enjoyable eating environment encouraging good table manners and independence.
Oversees the smooth running of lunch service and packed lunches
Responsible for MDA rotas across Infant and Junior
Organises ‘supply’ MDA cover when necessary
Organises wet play provision
Organises who is coming in for lunch and when
Supports incidents and/or problems occurring in lunch halls feeding back to Class Teachers using agreed approach
Liaises with SIT when necessary
Does not get involved with outdoor play provision
Does not get involved with outdoor behaviour / Supervise the cooked dinner lunches in the Infant and Junior schools
Supervise both indoor and outdoor packed lunches
Supervise wet play provision in classes
Supervise corridors
Do not get involved with outdoor play provision
Do not get involved with outdoor behaviour
