Purpose of the Post

To lead, develop and adapt fundraising and development strategy for the organisation, based on strategic insight and spotting mutual commercial opportunity and presenting powerfully to potential corporate partners, sponsors and high net worth individuals. To reach and increase targets for financial support for the organisation from the trust and private sectors, from local, national and international sources.

Principal Accountabilities

Strategy

  1. To write, develop and deliverBath Festivals’ strategy to secure over £400k per annum from philanthropic sources and corporate partnerships for its two festivals, the new Bath Festival and the Children’s Literature Festival and its year-round Creative Learning programme. To secure Board and CEO approval and support.

Individuals

  1. To grow and cultivate support from a wide network of individual donors. Manage the Patron and member schemes (over 50 Patrons, meet the target of 100 by end of 2018). Organise new donor cultivation events, at least 2 a year. Work withan active Patrons committee and manage an on-going programme of events with their support. The Chair currently plays an active part in making introductions which the Head of Development must approach, present to and persuade, often alone, but sometimes with the CEO or Chair. Active networking in Bath is therefore essential.

Corporate Partnerships

  1. To identify and make approaches to potential corporate partners and sponsors, issue contracts,manage delivery logistics and effective stewardship.To advise colleagues on how to shape the festivals in a way which is attractive to increased corporate interest and support.

Trusts and Foundations

  1. To identify opportunities for applications to trusts and foundations, identify appropriate freelance contractors to write applications and oversee their appointment and work. Draw conclusions from success rate, general trends and apply to future applications

Ways of working

  • create and manage Development databases to ensure effective reporting and records are accurate and updated
  • keep development budget and actual expenditure records up to date
  • ensure follow up and care of existing donors, corporate sponsors and funders
  • identify, network, select and manage freelance contractors
  • provide general assistance in festivals and other events as determined from time to time
  • undertake any other duties commensurate with the post that shall from time to time be determined by the Chief Executive

Person specification

Essential

Experience of fundraising success in delivering to targets in excess of £200k, including from donors, patrons and corporates

Understanding of fundraising and development tools and strategies

First class communicator with strong presentational skills, making impact and gifted abilities of persuasion

Understanding both HNW motivations/needs and corporate strategies and how to frame Bath Festivals activities/direction within that

Proven ability to build strong and lasting relationships with a range of external supporters and influence and negotiate with external stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes

Knowledge of donor and supporter contact management, including use of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) or donor database and data protection

Knowledge of current fundraising guidelines and legislation

Able and willing to network in Bath with individuals, organisations and in partnerships

High levels of enthusiasm, self-motivation and a self-managing ‘can do’ attitude

Collaborative and supportive attitude in a team

Desirable

IOF certificate or marketing qualification

Educated to degree level

High levels of determination and willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities

Love of music and literature and a desire to share them
