Post Title: First Aid Co-ordinator / Admin Assistant

Job Grade: H3

Hours 37 hours per week- term time only

Responsible to: Office Manager

To manage and provide general and emergency first aid provision to all pupils and members of the school community and to provide general admin and reception support.

Key Duties

·  General first aid and emergency provision across secondary / primary and staff

·  Supervise the medical room, including care of sick, injured and distressed individuals until better, encouraging pupils back to class as soon as appropriate.

·  Where necessary, making phone calls home and / or arranging to get pupil home

·  Ensuring visits to the medical room, accidents treated, medicine administered are recorded daily

·  Ensuring all relevant parental consent forms to administer or carry medicine are obtained

·  Liaising with local health authorities to organise immunisations/vaccinations/health check and organising on the day / supervising students.

·  Advise parents of immunisation programmes and outbreaks of communicable diseases. Managing communication for consent on vaccinations.

·  Recording any medical or dietary requirements of new Primary and Secondary transition students, and In Year admissions

·  Drafting and updating essential care lists of students with ‘need to know’ conditions i.e. allergies/medical requirements, Red Flag epipen users, and inhalers to post in all classrooms, staff room and canteen

·  Liaising with parents whose child has dietary requirements, organising meetings with Herts Catering so child’s needs within school are met

·  Point of contact within the administration team working with SEN faculty

·  Supporting Trips Co-coordinator with event specific dietary and medical reports, identifying potential issues from student medical/trip forms, preparing medicines required to go out on trips

·  Ensure that the medical room, facilities and first aid kits throughout the school are maintained, that all first aid supplies are replenished by regular inspection of stocks and dispensing records

·  Implement and maintain arrangements for first-aid provision to comply with statutory requirements, including risk assessment to determine the total number of first-aid personnel required, the training of first-aiders, maintenance of records, accident reporting arrangements, statutory notices and first-aid boxes

·  Preparing yearly Accident Summary Report for Governor’s and any other medical reports required by school.

·  Assisting the Office Manager and Admin team as and when required. May also be required to cover reception duties from time to time.

Knowledge, Experience & Training

·  First Aid including Paediatric, Anaphylaxis, Adrenalin, Defibrillator desirable but training can be given

·  School experience is desirable but training will be given on SIMs and other education specific tasks

·  Experience of working within a busy environment

·  Experience of clerical and administrative work.

·  Good numeracy and literacy skills.
