Post Title: ESOLLearning Support Assistant

Workload:37 hours per week Term Time Only (36 weeks)

Responsible To:Programme Area Leader for ESOL

Grade: H14-18 (£18, 143 - £20, 427) Pro rated

Aims and Purpose of the Job:

To deliver effective learning support by;

Working with teaching staff to provide additional support for ESOL learners

Developing strategies to respond to additional learning support needs of individuals and groups

Work with course tutors to prepare learners for formal assessment

Carry out recording of support activities using the college reporting systems

Communicating learner progress to tutors at the end of each support session

In order to achieve the main aims and fulfil the responsibilities of the post, the post holder will have the following duties:

1. To meet regularly with course tutors to develop strategies for support for groups and individuals.

2. To work collaboratively with the tutors, Course Leaders and Programme Area Leaders, to share good practice and develop an innovative approach to support for learning.

3. To develop strategies to promote independent learning for individuals.

4. To adjust the learners support plan as required as they develop independence, in collaboration with the course leader/tutor.

5. To record all instances of support to allow college funding to be accurately monitored and claimed.

6. To work flexibly and carry out additional roles within the college as may be agreed from time to time.

7. To provide support in class or work on 1-1/small group basis with learners.

  • Participate in annual appraisals of performance and regular reviews.
  • Undertake any personal development necessary to ensure effective performance in the role.
  • Undertake any additional duties that the Corporation may require within the scope of the post.
  • Commit to and uphold the college’s environmental aspirations for sustainable learning provision.

Departmental Specific Duties

The post holder will provide support to groups and individuals as allocated.

Specific targets and objectives will be agreed with the post holder and will be reviewed regularly as part of the performance management arrangements
