POST TITLE Digital & Media Relations Coordinator

FUNCTION Raise the profile of Cheshire Wildlife Trust and build relationships with supporters and prospects through the effective use of digital channels and media relations.

PURPOSE OF POST

To maximize the use of social media and other digital channels to help deliver the Trust’s communications and fundraising objectives.

To co-ordinate effective promotion of the Trust through relevant local, regional and national media.

To maintain a consistent profile for the Trust through sustained and proactive content generation.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning and reporting

·  Deliver individual targets agreed in the Communications Plan and support other teams in achieving communications outputs

·  Develop and deliver plans for the development of the Trust’s online presence including website and social media.

·  Compile regular reports feeding in to local and national communications targets

·  Utilise analysis software to monitor and report back on communications work and direct future communications activities

Digital communications

·  Act as lead webmaster for the Trust’s website, populating content and ensuring latest CMS/e-commerce updates are integrated. Ensure all content is up-to-date and relevant and supports the Trust’s communications and fundraising targets.

·  Work with the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts’ national communications team to co-ordinate the delivery of a new website for Cheshire Wildlife Trust in 2017.

·  Manage and deliver social media output (including Facebook and Twitter) to promote the Trust to wider audiences.

·  Respond quickly and appropriately to enquiries or negative feedback generated through social media.

·  Work with staff, volunteers and others to develop social media and other online content/assets e.g. blogs

·  Work with the Supporter Communications Manager to deliver e-communications to a range of target audiences including the monthly Wild Cheshire newsletter and invitations to events.

·  Use digital and media channels to maximise the success of campaigns/ appeals.

·  Use website and social media analytics to monitor the reach of our communications.

·  Use digital techniques such as SEO and AdWords to increase traffic to communications platforms.

Media relations

·  Raise the profile of the Trust locally and when required nationally, to support the delivery of the Trust’s Communications Plan and UK-wide campaigns through the proactive identification and distribution of newsworthy stories.

·  Writing, editing and proof-reading of media releases, along with sourcing of suitable photographic imagery or video content.

·  Develop and maintain positive relationships with regional and national media (print and broadcast) to ensure regular, high-profile positioning of the Trust and its work. Maintain an up to date media contact list and produce media releases.

·  Ensure strong reputation management through supporting media spokespeople within the Trust staff.

·  Build links with photographers/filmmakers to ensure a supply of effective and engaging imagery to support projects, often with limited budgets.

·  Work with the Director of Conservation and other colleagues to ensure that conservation projects, wildlife sightings and other relevant stories are communicated to target audiences and that funding partners are appropriately acknowledged.

Brand

·  Work to support and develop the brand of Cheshire Wildlife Trust both locally and nationally.

·  Ensure Cheshire Wildlife Trust corporate standards are maintained in line with The Wildlife Trusts’ communications guidelines and national campaigns such as ‘my wild life’.

·  Support staff to use social media and other communications tools e.g. presentations, in line with the Trust’s communications guidelines.

Partnerships

·  Liaise with communications officers from partner agencies and other Wildlife Trusts to maximise promotion of projects.

·  Work with colleagues from other Wildlife Trusts and the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts to identify promotional and marketing opportunities.

Other Duties

·  Undertake any other duties required by the Supporter Communications Manager and Director for Fundraising and Communications.

·  Undertake training as required.

·  Promote membership and actively engage with potential and current supporters.

·  Take responsibility for meeting your individual membership target as part of the staff membership recruitment scheme.


POST SPECIFICATION

This role requires team working and confidence to lead on the development of our digital communications and media relations. Whilst supported by the Supporter Communications Manager, the post holder will be expected to work and make decisions independently. The role will involve:

·  A planned approach to disseminating messages across a range of channels.

·  Regular liaison with a range of contacts. These include employees and officers of the Wildlife Trust and other bodies, media contacts and existing and potential donors.

·  Taking a creative approach to developing engaging communications materials

·  Maintaining up to date knowledge of all relevant areas of communications.

·  Monitoring of performance against targets.

·  Travel around the region and occasionally beyond. A current driving licence, a car and full insurance cover for personal business use will be essential.

·  In order for the organisation to work effectively you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore, you should be prepared to undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as delegated by the Supporter Communications Manager or Director of Fundraising and Communications.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Salary: £16,000-18,000 p.a. (depending on experience)

Pension: The Trust has a Group Personal Pension Scheme, which is available to the post holder.

Hours of Work: Ideally full-time hours (35 hours per week), although part-time working considered. Overtime is not paid but time off in lieu may be taken, where appropriate, as the post may involve some evening or weekend working.

Duration of post: This post is permanent. All new employees undertake a probationary period of 6 months, in which time they are expected to demonstrate their suitability for the post.

Holidays: 28 days (including 8 Bank Holidays) plus 3 specified days per annum pro-rata to start with, rising by 1 day per year up to a maximum of 36 days (inclusive) after 5 years.

Place of work: The Wildlife Trust's Head Office: Bickley Hall Farm, Bickley, Malpas, Cheshire SY14 8EF. Occasional home working is permitted.
