Post:Senior Development Officer
Salary:£24,737 (incl London Weighting, if applicable, depending onqualifications and experience)
Reports to:Campaigns and Communications Manager – Play England
Post conditions:28 hours per week (0.8 fte). Fixed term to end March 2018.
Location:To be negotiated with the successfulapplicant
Scope and objectives
- To work with the Play England trustees and Campaigns and Communications Managerto develop and deliver the Play EnglandAdventure into Sport project.
- To contribute to thesustainability of Adventure into Sport.
- To provide practice and policy expertise on issues concerning children’s play broadly, and Adventure into Sport in particular.
- To contribute to the development and delivery of other Play England projects, as required.
Specific objectives
- To support the development and successful delivery of Adventure into Sport and other Play England programmes and projects.
- To support Play England campaigns including Playday.
- To support and work with partners to enable them to develop and deliver Adventure into Sport in their areas.
- To respond to enquiries through the Play England enquiry line and social media.
- To maintain records and databases as required to support the Adventure into Sport project and Play England
- To co-ordinate Play England networks, forums and other groups, relating to Adventure into Sport.
- To develop, co-ordinate and promote information, research, advice and good practice guidance through case studies, seminars, social media and other resources.
- To support the Play England Treasurer in the preparation of budgets for project work and financial control of existing work programme.
- To provide reports on progress of Adventure into Sport, and other projects, to trustees and funders as required
- To assist in the identification and development of opportunities to extend and sustain Adventure into Sport and related projects.
- To support the evaluation and monitoring of PlayEngland programmes and projects.
General
- To make an active contribution to the Play England programme and project delivery.
- To develop excellent relationships with new and existing external and internal stakeholders.
- To attend and contribute to staff, trustees and external partner meetings as required.
- To undertake other duties as appropriate.

Person Specification
Senior Development Officer
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of children’s play and interventions to create opportunities for children’s play
- Experience of successfully supporting communities to engage in developing and supporting play activities for and with local children and young people
- Experience of planning, co-ordinating and facilitating events
- Experience of identifying and supporting the development of new areas of work
- Experience of fund-raising and bid writing
- Experience of partnership working, delivering projects and maintaining networks
- Excellent writing, communciations and presentation skills, including the use of social media
- Ability to use IT packages, MS Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint)
- Ability work on own initiative and as part of a team
- Awareness and commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice
- Ability and willingness to undertake regular travel in England, in particular to Bradford and London for the Adventure into Sport project.
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of adventure playgrounds and play ranger work
- Experience of working in a small organisation
- Knowledge of the sport sector and ability to make connections with play
